As Dune closes in on $100 million at the domestic box office, Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic will soon return to IMAX theaters.
The critically-acclaimed adaptation, which is no longer available to stream on HBO Max, is expected to pass the BO milestone this weekend, and Deadline is reporting that the movie will screen in IMAX theaters for a limited time starting December 3. The film has taken in over $50 million from IMAX showings alone (13% of its global box office), so this is a smart move on Warner Bros.' part.
Many fans who only saw Dune from home will be keen to check out the visually-stunning movie on the biggest screen possible, and there's sure to be quite a few cinemagoers eager for a second watch.
There were initial concerns that the cerebral sci-fi adaptation might struggle to find an audience, thus jeopardizing any sequel plans. However, Warner Bros./Legendary recently announced that Dune: Part Two is officially in development, and is set to hit theaters in 2023.
