GOTG Actor Dave Bautista Reteams With BLADE RUNNER 2049 Director Denis Villeneuve For DUNE

Big news for fans of Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novels here, as Variety reports that Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista has signed on to star opposite Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson in Denis Villeneuve's Dune.

Sources report that the former WWE Champion has been cast as Glossu "Beast" Rabban Harkonnen, who is the sadistic nephew of main villain The Baron. Chalamet will play the lead role of Paul Atreides, while Ferguson will portray his mother, Lady Jessica.

For those unfamiliar with the source material, Dune follows the Atreides family as they relocate to the desolate planet of Arrakis to assume control of the production of the most valuable resource in the galaxy, the Spice Melange. Unfortunately, an act of treachery soon makes an outcast of The Duke Atreides' youngest son Paul, and he must accept his destiny as a powerful prophet of the Arrakis natives known as The Fremen.

There have been several different adaptions of Dune over the years, the most famous - or infamous, depending on your perspective - is David Lynch's ambitious, but flawed 1984 movie starring Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Kyle MacLachlan. This latest take will be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, and Cale Boyter, with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert serving as executive producers.

Good for Dave. His acting chops are improving. To me he was cringeworthy in the first Guardians but by Infinity War he was quite good at his role as Drax. And he did a decent job in 2049 which is a modern masterpiece.

I've tried several times to both read the book and to watch the Dune movie but they are both so long and boring I always fall asleep or give up halfway. I just have no interest in the tale despite all the acclaim I've heard of it. Maybe Denis can finally rope me into finishing the story.
