PLANET OF THE APES: 20th Century Studios Rumored To Be Developing New TV Series For Disney+

A new Planet of the Apes movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is currently being shot, but a new rumour suggests the long-running sci-fi franchise could be heading to the small screen on Disney+.

If a new rumour is to be believed, a TV series based on the Planet of the Apes franchise is currently in the works for Disney+.

The news comes our way from Giant Freakin Robot (via SFFGazette.com). While the site understandably has a pretty poor reputation, a few of their scoops have been confirmed by the trades in recent weeks, so we're not going to dismiss this just yet!

While very little is known about the project - including where in the franchise's timeline it would take place - it sounds like it could somehow tie into the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes movie and possibly be released around the same time. As you might expect, this supposed series is being developed with a Disney+ debut in mind, the home of many 20th Century Studios properties since Disney acquired the company.

With Kingdom set to serve as a loose sequel to the trilogy starring Andy Serkis, there's lots of room to explore how the apes managed to overthrow the planet and make it their own. We still haven't reached that post-apocalyptic point in the timeline, though the expectation is that we'll eventually get there.

The movie is expected to pick up long after Caesar's demise, with two different groups of apes embarking on very different missions as they make a place for themselves in the new world.

William H. Macy, Owen Teague, Freya Allen, Dichen Lachman, and Peter Macon are among those who have been cast, and the movie will be released in theaters next May.

Going back to this TV series, though, and time will tell whether it actually becomes a reality. Disney has wasted no time in expanding the franchises it acquired, with a new Alien movie and TV show also currently in the works, for example.

Would you like to see the Planet of the Apes brought to the small screen?

Just make a movie. The last series was fantastic. Now this is going to be slow, short and kid sensitive.

The movies are good. Don't kill it with another unnecessary TV show.

I think the previous series ended on a downward spiral quality wise. Hopefully the new set of films will reignite the high quality of the first film. Overall I enjoyed the first trilogy of films.

@TyrantBossMedia - Just imagine the outcry of white slaves uprising against Apes.

@TyrantBossMedia - Remember when Rosanne (a lifelong left winger) said Valerie Jarrett (who is Iranian not Black) looked like a planet of the apes character and got canceled over it?

All the modern wokies got mad because they immediately associate ape = black, when it was just an insult about how the lady looks (she does look like some of the characters in the original movie). Left wingers really cling to those old racist stereotypes that were perpetuated by the Democrat KKK.

@marvel72 - I have a sneaking suspicion that it woke Hollywood will reverse the roles.

@mountainman - Precisely.

These are the same tolerant Left Wingers who force the change of Monkey Pox to M-Pox because they said that the "Monkey" in Monkey Pox is insensitive to Black people.

It's quite telling that the FIRST thing they think of when they see the word Monkey is a Black Person.

And they try to call us racist to deflect from their own deep seeded and inherent racism.

@TyrantBossMedia - I live in Colorado and there is a Denver city council woman who wants to steal money from white owned businesses and give it to black owned businesses. Because she is so racist that she thinks that black people cant run their businesses well enough on their own. Democrats are the biggest racists in the US today.

@mountainman - Yes they are.

That’s also why Disney and Woke Hollywood are forcing minorities into roles under the guise of “inclusion” when it’s actually because of their racism and they don’t think minorities are talented or skilled enough to earn the positions in their merits.

It’s disgraceful.

@TyrantBossMedia - More than likely, we'll probably get gay apes and drag apes as well.

As much as I love the Planet Of The Apes movies,I will be interested in seeing if they can pull this off but it's Disney so expect to see a their agenda all over it.
