We got a first look at some footage from Project Hail Mary back in June, and Amazon MGM Studios has now released a full trailer for the highly-anticipated sci-fi drama, giving us a much better idea of what to expect.

Based on Andy Weir's New York Times best-selling novel, the movie stars Ryan Gosling (Barbie, Star Wars: Starfighter) as a science teacher named Ryland Grace who is enlisted to undertake a one-man mission to save the planet by reigniting the sun.

There's just one problem: Grace wakes up after travelling light years from home, having completely lost his memory.

Before going any further, be aware that this trailer spoils a major plot point from the novel.

Grace makes an ally in the form of a mysterious alien he nicknames Rocky, whose planet is also being impacted by the dying sun. Together, they attempt to solve the mystery of the "substance" that's causing the sun to expire before it's too late.

“It's really more a marketing decision by Amazon MGM, but the idea was no one's going to walk into that theater and not know about Rocky,” Weir said of the trailer giving away the twist in an interview with Polygon. “This is not a Darth Vader is Luke's father kind of situation. This is a core, central element of the plot that everybody's going to be talking about and that everybody who's read the book already knows about.”

Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction… but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

Project Hail Mary is directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Drew Goodard, based on the novel by: Andy Weir. Producers include Amy Pascal, p.g.a., Ryan Gosling, Phil Lord, p.g.a., Christopher Miller, p.g.a., Aditya Sood, p.g.a., Rachel O’Connor, p.g.a., Andy Weir. Executive Producers: Patricia Whitcher, Drew Goddard, Sarah Esberg, Lucy Kitada, Nikki Baida, and Ken Kao.

The cast also features Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. Project Hail Mary arrives in theaters on March 20, 2026.

Stoked for this. Just read the book a few months ago and this looks very faithful. Lord and Miller were a great pick for this movie.

Looks decent imo for now…

Definitely gives me The Martian vibes which makes sense since the book is written by Andy Weir who wrote the former aswell.

Anyway , looking forward to the film especially due to the trio of Miller , Lord & Gosling!!.
