BOX OFFICE: ROGUE ONE Secures Its $155 Million Opening Weekend; Looks Set For $18 Million Monday

Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story reached its estimated box office takings of $155 million over the weekend, and from the looks of things it's set for a very impressive Monday haul too...

Reports are coming in that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stayed on target and met its estimate with a massive $155M weekend opening, giving it the second best ever December performance after all-time high set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year, and the 12th highest opening of all-time.

Plus, early morning estimates indicate that by the time the numbers are official, the Gareth Edwards-directed prequel will have scored a very impressive $17.7 - $18M from Monday screenings. This puts the film at around $172.7M domestically, with a global total of $323.5M

Rogue One should have another great weekend ahead, though it will face competition from the likes of Assassin's Creed and Passengers.

I'm a little surprised that some people really dislike the movie, my only problems with it were the dumb fanservice scenes.

@Darkknight2149 - I like RotJ but the Jabba singing scene is CRINGE to the max.

@LeonardTheWise -
That scene was from the director's cuts, not the theatrical version.
