BOX OFFICE: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Has Already Passed $250 Million Worldwide

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is making history as it has crushed the current opening day record in North America and looks set to have the biggest weekend of all-time. Throw in what the movie has made overseas and it's already reached a benchmark, so read on for details...

Avatar had best enjoy being the highest grossing movie of all-time while it can, because Star Wars: The Force Awakens is having an historic weekend. It grossed $120.5 million in North America yesterday, a figure which means it decimates all previous opening day records (it's also the first movie to debut with over $100 million). When you add the $129.5 millon it has so far grossed overseas since opening on Thursday, the J.J. Abrams helmed return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away has already earned over $250 million worldwide. That's set to increase dramatically over the next few days too, especially as analysts are now predicting a total haul in North America this weekend of between $240 - 245 million. Overwhelmingly positive reviews and strong word of mouth (it has an A CinemaScore) has led to theaters making even more screen available for it to be shown on too, and while Star Wars: The Force Awakens doesn't open in China until January 9th, that too should add a huge amount to its overall haul. Which record will it break next? How about all of 'em!

I really wanted to love or like this movie.....I mean I love SW! But this movie just felt out of place......even more than those other turds Episode 1-3......

Ugh Kylo R. was just annoying did not feel menacing like Darth Vader.......Captin Phasma was a waste......she had no impact on anything in the movie. Crap even Boba Fett in Empire Strikes Back he had very limited screen time but he was utilized so well. She should have been a badass........and nothing.

I was fine with the major death in the movie........that actor always wanted that character to die. I was fine with Luke at the end......to me that spoke a lot.

But little things also bothered me, like C-3PO saying your probably do not recognize me due to my red arm.......well can you please explain why you have a red arm.......!

Or how Rey just figured out the force......I mean Luke was highly gifted with the force and had to be trained to even deflect little lasers from that training ball. Yet she was able to use Jedi Mind tricks.......... and then take down a person who was trained by a Jedi Master!!!!!!!

Holy crap I am so disappointed.........

And yes it was a rehash of episode 4 and 6......same plot and same ending!

I mean you can tell that Rey was separated from her parents because she was force sensitive and she was put on a desert planet.....she is discovered and has to get the plans to the rebels errrr I mean resistance. She fights in battles on the Mill Falcon......needs to get secret plans.....errr a map to the rebels.......gets captured by the Empire...errr I mean the First
Order......escapes on a giant base on the Mill Falcon.........see a father figure Ben K......errrrr (spoiler) get killed.........and bam giant base gets destroyed! Then she goes off to get trained by yoda........errr Luke.

Yup that was episode 4, 5, and 6 mashed into one!

I think Star Wars will take the domestic crown from Avatar. But worldwide, i do think AVATAR will keep it.

There are just too many out if this world national records Avatar has set in several markets (like several $150+M) that i don't see Star Wars taking bar in the UK and/or Germany.

It also opened second in South Korea which leads me to think that it may act as a typical blockbusters type in Asia (bar maybe Japan) but not out of this world type like AVATAR was doing EVERYWHERE.

I will personallky settle for the domestic crown, hope that it can close in around $1.5B on the foreign take and ultimately overtake Titanic worldwide gross.

I see it finishing between $2.2B and $2.5B on a worldwide basis.

@jazzy4

You could be right.......there are to many movies coming up that could take the steam out of this movie.

Though it has a good month and a half to accomplish this task.

@ballZ I think Civil War will make a billion easy. Having Downey in the cast makes its money making jon easier as he draws a huge crowd. If it happens to be an amzing film, which I think it will, couple that with the fact that the film has the avengers in it too, it could come close to AOU's gross of 1.4 bill, maybe a little more. This is Marvel's biggest film until IW.

BvS will make money easy as well. But it could suffer the Man of Steel fate. I thought MOS would make 800-900 million but once word of mouth got out about it being not as good as people thought it would, it only made about 650 million. If BVS is good I think it will make 1.5 billion, but if not, it could be a 900 mil dissapointment. I truly believe that. There is a stigma with DC after MOS. The RT score for MOS was 56% and the critics weren't high on it. The audience score is a solid 76%, but with BVS I'm sure they want way higher. Like AOU had an 85% audience score and 75% fresh rating for example. The first Avengers bad a 92% and 91% score. So WB wants something along those lines.

LMFAO

Civil War and BvS won't come even close to TFA.

Doubt both will even reach 1.5billion

JoeMomma29 - 12/19/2015, 9:33 AM
Though I was happy to see several trailers in IMAX! Civil War looked very nice in IMAX.

And no I am not being a DC Fanboy but the all people in theater were chatting it up after the BvS saying that looks awesome....oh I want to see that so bad.

To me that is a good sign for BvS!

Also Deadpool killed it! Even my wife thought it was just awesome!

the BvS RT score is just so mind boggling. I honestly just think the 'critics' on RT were just disappointed they didn't get something similar to a marvel movie with a light tone and jokes all over the place or a Donner type superman.

the critics (289) gave it a 56%, but the audiences (439k) gave it a 76%.
Audience rating > Critic rating

Something is definitely funky when there's such a disparity in score.

and IMO, MOS was a master piece of a film. Better than any marvel movie thus far.

Also regarding box office success, you guys have to be crazy if you dont think BvS can at least get half of what TFA is going to do.
I see some people predicting 900M for BvS, im just like "What?!?!" O.o
Batman alone will make that film a Billion+.
and if its good, (which I highly believe it will be) it'll make even more.
Dont sleep on BvS.

@Goldslayer1 (previous post)
Meant MOS RT score, not BvS.

The audience clapped after the Civil War and Independence Day trailers came on. Some girl yelled "BLACK PANTHER" frantically during the CW trailer haha.

During the BVS trailer, some guy yelled "yeah that's what I'm talking about!!" when wonder woman showed up and then said "wtf no no" when Doomsday dropped in lol. When batman and superman had their "she's with you" dialogue, the same guy said "don't say that" lol

We didn't get the Deadpool trailer which PISSED ME OFF!

BVS and Civl War CAN NOT TOUCH TFA! Im excited for both but NO WAY! There's a cultural significance Star Wars as that even Marvel & Batman and Superman cant touch.

And this is a new Batman. NOLAN's Batman was a surefire billion, but that doesnt mean Affleck's will be. Batman Begins made 300 mil; it wasn't until TDK that batman became a billion dollar boy lol. I think Affleck, kill it, but we have to see how the public reacts to him. My gfs mom's reaction to seeing Affleck as Batman was: "the guy from Chasing Amy is Batman?" lol. Although, that's a good movie.

GhostDog - 12/19/2015, 9:49 AM
@GoldSlayer1 I Repsect your opinion, but I can't agree with it. MOS was solid, but jot better than TWS or the first Avengers. I can admit, the RT score was funky. I here ya there

@JoeMomma29 how am I trolling by telling you what some guy in my theater said?? I don't want it to fail. How am I trolling by saying I want Affleck to kill it? I want it ot be great but I'm acknowledging true shit like the stigma of MOS.

I love Bats and Supes and wAnna see them do great, but I have reason to be cautiously optimistic.

I blew $90.00 bucks on that movie! And another $200.00 at Dave and Busters to make it a fun day!

At least at Dave and Busters....they gave us unlimited game play if you showed your SW tickets.
