Dave Filoni Talks STAR WARS REBELS Season 2; Brand New Action-Packed Clip Released

Thanks to MTV, a new clip has been released for Star Wars Rebels season 2's first episode titled, “The Siege of Lothal.” Along with the clip, series creator Dave Filoni talked about how they are going to use Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano, the things she will bring to the series, and more...

The clip above features the Rebels taking down Empire ships and keeping the people of Lothal safe. This most likely takes place before Kanan and Erza face off against Sith Lord Darth Vader! Speaking of Darth Vader, series creator Dave Filoni, in a recent interview with MTV, spoke on the character, and revealed that they didn't want to overuse him. "I think you don’t want to overuse a character like that, and you don’t want to have characters like Darth Vader in a situation where he’s going to lose relentlessly," He then tells why they didn't want to add Darth Vader into the season one storyline, “As we were figuring out the story of the rebels in Season 1, we didn’t want to put Vader in that position. So we waited until their skills kind of grew and as a group they became more formidable," He then continues, "We thought, ‘Okay, after Season 1 they’ve caused a lot of trouble, let’s send in the heavy artillery and kind of smack them down a little bit.’ Put them back in their place with Darth Vader.”

Aside from Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano made her debut (or her return) in the final episode of season one. Filoni spoke on her and revealed that she will have a big impact not only as a warrior, but as a mentor as well. “She’s very much a warrior, but she’s also sort of a mentor and in some ways spiritual leader of the group, [but] she’s not directly tied to our rebels all the time." He then revealed which character from the Hobbit franchise, the writers use to help shape Ahsoka's personality. “One character that I used as a reference point for the writers was if you look at the way Gandalf kind of operates in ’The Hobbit,’ he’s in and out of the story because he’s working on many levels and doing many other things all the time." He then adds, "I really see Ahsoka that way, where she’s maneuvering a lot of pieces on the board and putting people in positions, but then it’s really up to them to make something of the situation."

With the newest episode of Star Wars Rebels airing on Disney XD on June 20, I'm sure we'll learn a lot more about the Rebels, Ahsoka, Kanan and Erza! Does this mean that we won't see Darth Vader around as much in the season? Not exactly, but there will be other villains and thugs they will have to face throughout the upcoming season!
