Ewan McGregor Would Be Happy To Return To The World Of STAR WARS

Easily one of the highlights of the Star Wars prequels, Ewan McGregor recently talked about how much he was looking forward to The Force Awakens. He also revealed that he would be happy to return to the franchise as 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'. Read on for more!

Arguably the strongest part of the much-maligned Star Wars prequel movies was Ewan McGregor's turn as fan favorite Jedi Master, 'Obi-Wan Kenobi'. Ahead of the franchise's return to theatres with The Force Awakens this December, The Daily Record quizzed McGregor about how he felt about the new film. "I'm excited as everyone else and am looking forward it seeing it," the Scottish actor revealed, "It's not a fanatical thing. I'm really pleased I'm part of the legacy of it and happy to see it and I've seen the trailer and it looks like they've absolutely nailed it."

Despite his early optimism, he did have one minor qualm - specifically regarding incoming Sith Lord Kylo Ren's weapon. "I'm not sure about the hilt on the lightsaber," he noted, "If you fight with a lightsaber properly you don't need one." It seems even the new lightsabers wont be enough to drive him away though, revealing that he would be "happy to do the story from episodes three where [he] finished up and Alec Guinness started."

Would you like to see McGregor reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi? If so, where do you think he fits in this new Star Wars expanded universe? Could he appear as a 'force ghost' in the main series, or perhaps lead his own spin-off Star Wars Anthology movie? One other option could be a small part in Gareth Edwards' upcoming Rogue One, which is set at some point between Episodes III & IV. As usual, be sure to leave your ideas in the comments below!

Lmao @DrDoom! I started out naively saying I never would try that tactic... but repeatedly watching each article I spent 20 minutes writing deleted because I was too slow to post left me feeling like this too many times...

"I'm not sure about the hilt on the lightsaber," he noted, "If you fight with a lightsaber properly you don't need one."

Ewan must not be keeping track of all the hands cut off by lightsabers.

Also, isn't it a "crossguard" not a "hilt"??? hahaha.

This is the most absolute way to disregard the needing of the hilt sabers. I would love to see Colbert argue his way out of this one lol

Fun Fact: Ewan McGregor has a brother named Colin who was a pilot for the Royal Air Force. After Ewan became Obi Wan, the other pilots began calling his older brother... Obi Two!

It's a crossguard, not a hilt. And this guy seems to know a lot more about swords & swordfighting than me, you or Ewan. hahaha.

@ImKennyPowers From the handles end until the blade, it is know as a hilt.

@ImKennyPowers Also, the video of the dude testing it out was merely talking about the safety aspect. Ewan is right, the saber hilts are useless, because a true Jedi wouldn't need it or make a dumb mistake of letting their opponent slide their saber down.

@Kr08

Does he have a problem with the hilt or the crossguard???
Kr08
Kr08 - 6/22/2015, 1:13 PM
@ImKennyPowers It's not about if the wielder has a problem, its about how it can be used for battle. And it is definitely limiting his movements thats for sure

@Kr08 - "Also, the video of the dude testing it out was merely talking about the safety aspect."

I know I watched it! hahaha. He did it because people were ignorantly assuming the crossguard would be dangerous and could hurt the wielder. That's why he put paint on the crossguard to demonstrate if you know what you're doing it shouldn't touch you.

"Ewan is right, the saber hilts are useless, because a true Jedi wouldn't need it or make a dumb mistake of letting their opponent slide their saber down."

It's called a crossguard. Doesn't a sword have a hilt without a crossguard??

So, real life swords don't need crossguards because they're useless??? hahaha. True swordfighters shouldn't need crossguards either because they shouldn't make the same dumb mistake?? See how silly that logic is??? Crossguards serve a defensive purpose in swordfighting, there's centuries of history proving this no?? But you & Ewan believe it to be useless?? Come on!! hahaha.

@Kr08 - "It's not about if the wielder has a problem, its about how it can be used for battle. And it is definitely limiting his movements thats for sure"

Throughout real life history blacksmiths and swordfighters did it wrong this whole time?!??

Why didn't anyone tell them before now?!?

@imKennyPowers Katanas, bro! Lol The lightsabers, if I remember correctly were based off of Katanas

@Kr08 - "Katanas, bro! Lol The lightsabers, if I remember correctly were based off of Katanas"

I believe that's right, but that doesn't change anything.

katanas -
"Hilt type: Two-handed swept, with circular or squared guard"

This proves that katanas themselves have circular or squared guards, so the crossguard is by no means "useless."

It also confirms there's a difference between hilt & crossguard, right??
