More HAN SOLO Details Emerge; The Crew Reportedly Broke Into Applause At The News Of Ron Howard's Hiring

THR has published a follow-up report on the recent news that Phil Lord and Chris Miller had been fired from the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff and replaced by Ron Howard, and it sounds like the situation came to a head over more than just "deep fundamental philosophical differences" in filmmaking styles.

The report reiterates the previous insider assertion that there were problems from almost day 1, but also reveals that Lord and Miller didn't only clash with Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan.

THR's source claims that as talented as the duo are, they simply weren't prepared to work on such a massive production, which led to "hundreds of crew members waiting for direction", and - at least in Lucasfilm's estimation - the directors failing to elicit convincing enough performances for their cast. Apparently, and acting coach for Alden Ehrenreich was even brought in.

Here's an excerpt describing what went down when Kasdan was brought in to lend a hand, and the aftermath:

Lord and Miller were not prepared to have Kasdan become a shadow director. With an impasse reached, Kennedy finally pulled the trigger. The next day, when the crew was told that Ron Howard would take over as director, sources say they broke into applause."

There's more to the report so be sure to head on over to THR to check out the full thing, and share your thoughts with us in the usual place.

As excited as I was to see Lord/Miller do a Star Wars movie, and as much as I felt bad when I first saw the news of them getting fired, reading these stories makes me think we're watching the Fant4stic debacle all over again.
