New Photos From ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY Hint At A Very Different Ending

Lucasfilm has remained suspiciously silent on why they decided to alter the original ending of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but a new batch of photos could provide fans with a fresh hint as to why...

In yesterday's story, Rogue One editors John Gilroy and Colin Goudie revealed that many of the reshoots for the Star Wars prequel were done to provide their characters with additional introductory backgrounds. When asked about the drastic changes to the third act of the film, however, Gilroy dodged the question. "...I don’t want to go into too much detail about what had been there before, but it was different."

It's been deduced through behind-the-scenes shots and excised trailer scenes that Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, K-2SO and Orson Krennic were all originally intended to make it down to the battle-torn beaches of Scarif, with the heroes carrying the physical plans for the Death Star with them. How and why events played out this way has yet to be discovered, but a few new photos (courtesy of /Film) have given us a look at some scenes that never made the final cut.

One photo of Jyn and Cassian stands out in particular; the two Rebels are pictured in the aftermath of the Scarif battle with the Death Star plans in a bag, with Stormtrooper corpses and a very much alive Baze Malbus in the background. It's highly unlikely that this is before the battle, as the team used the element of surprise to sneak in to the compound to begin with. Judging from this photo, it seems likely that the team (or some of them) were meant to originally survive the battle. Check out the photos below and let us know what you think in the comments!

Alan Tudyk and Andy Serkis should make a movie together playing Mo-cap actors, or just as 2 mo-cap characters would also be cool

Also, I didn't know Alan Tudyk did the MoCap, that's awesome!

Yep... no doubt in my mind that at least Jyn, Cassian and Baze originally survived. That also backs up Jiang Wen's spoilery comments about his character last year at that convention.

@RorMachine - They made it sound like they didn't get too far into filming before they decided to have everyone die, but I guess that was horse$h1+

@DJRock93 - I think this is the very first case of a movie undergoing reshoots to make the ending MORE bleak.
