New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Details - Who Is 'General Hux'?
In addition to those awesome new images, EW has dropped a few previously unknown details about several of the characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Plus, it's been revealed that one classic trilogy Jedi in particular finally convinced J.J. Abrams to sign on to direct...
It seems it's Star Wars day! Or at least it is over at EW, who released the lovely batch of new images from The Force Awakens earlier. But in addition to the pics they've also dropped a few new details about what we can expect from some of the more mysterious characters. For example, we definitely have a LOT more to find out about the villainous Kylo Ren (who is described as "Darth Vader obsessed") , as "his true identity has been masked from us in more ways than one." It's revealed that he only took the name Kylo Ren when he joined the "Knights Of Ren", and he might just have some connections to the original films. Speculate away!
They also provide our first official look at Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux. This guy was rumored to be working as a spy for the resistance but the caption that accompanies his pic seems to suggest that he's going to be an outright baddie, as he's described as "a cruel leader of The First Order who craves to show the galaxy his might."
It's also confirmed that the lightsaber given to Leia in the trailer is indeed the one Vader cut from his son's hand in Empire
Speaking of the younger Skywalker, it's well documented that J.J. Abrams took a lot of convincing to agree to helm this movie, and it turns out it was the prospect of continuing Luke's story that finally hooked him. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recalls what she said to the director after seemed adamant that he wasn't interested. “In the context of talking about story and laying out what we were thinking, I said one thing to him,” Kennedy revealed. “‘Who is Luke Skywalker?’” Apparently Abrams' almost immediate response was: “Oh my God, I just got the chills. I’m in.”
From the sounds of things this definitely won't be the same stargazing hero we met all the way back in A New Hope, and though no direct quotes back this up, there are strong suggestions in EW's report that Luke might actually be teetering on the edge of the Dark Side when we are reintroduced to him in The Force Awakens.
There's a lot more at the link below, so be sure to take a look. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be with us in December.
