RUMOR: Peter Cushing's 'Tarkin' Returning For ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

Yes, Peter Cushing passed away back in 1994, but death isn't the setback it used to be. A new rumor suggests that the planet-destroying Grand Moff Tarkin will be digitally resurrected for what sounds like it might be a major part in Gareth Edwards' Star Wars flick...

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is already fairly jam-packed with characters, and we may be able to add a very familiar face from the original trilogy to the roster - albeit, a digital version of it. The Daily Mail Online is reporting that the late great Peter Cushing's character from A New Hope, Grand Moff Tarkin, will be back for Gareth Edwards' movie, which revolves around a group of Rebels attempting to steal the plans for the first Death Star.

Tarkin was instrumental in building that technological terror, so it does make sense that he'd factor into this story - but even though completely recreating a deceased actor using CGI has been done before (Oliver Reed in Gladiator, Paul Walker in the recent Fast Furious movie, and even Tarkin himself can be glimpsed briefly at the end of Revenge Of The Sith), this would be the first time it would be for more than a few shots.

We've already heard that Darth Vader will be returning, so if this is true expect to see Tarkin holding his leash once more. What are your thoughts on this? A good idea or disrespectful to Cushing's memory? You can read the full report at the link below.

@blackandyellow The whole title, or just the "a Star Wars story" part?

I'm sick of all this CGI bullshit, I want practical effect! Just dig Peter Cushing up, and "Weekend At Bernie's" the whole movie!

What? It's TOTALLY a practical idea!

This is unrelated but Mayimbe said Aunt May will be in Civil War, just for anyone who wants to know, but it is a pretty weak scoop, and I think most of us knew this by now.

De-aging someone like they did for Michael Douglas or Patrick Stewart is different than creating someone entirely from CGI. Remember Arnold from Terminator: Salvation?

I don't see why you wouldn't just hire a new actor to play the part though. Seems like a far simpler solution and he could be then used in multiple anthology movies.

He wasn't CG in RotS, that was an actor in make-up. Research before you write, people.

I'm still 90% certain that the title of the movie ISN'T supposed to be "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". It's just Rogue One. "A Star Wars Story" is just the qualifier at the end that makes it clear it's a spin-off. I mean, it's not like the official logo has a subtitle to it. It's just...there. CBM is the only site I've seen that says the whole title like that. Everyone else just calls it Rogue One.

Just use the actor who played Tarkin in episode 3, of course he was only in one scene, if he can act that is. He looked exactly like Peter Cushing.

They should absolutely get Wayne Pygram back if they can, not only does he look like Cushing, but he's a very good actor, having already played a very Tarkin-esque character as Scorpius on Farscape: (also one of my favorite screen villains ever)

I am SO. [frick]ING. READY. For this movie.

I'm [frick]ing over the moon for the continuations of the saga films, but finally we are getting expanded Star Wars universe movies. If I could ever work on one it would be the new breed of expanded star wars universe movies.

I feel like dancing in the streets!!

@Melkaticox It's a cooling suit; he's a crossbreed between two species. One naturally produces heat, but the other is weakened in high temperatures, so he has to wear it to function.

@Melkaticox

Wait, are you serious?

Do you really think that I would seriously suggest that they dig up Peter Cushing's body, and move it around like a puppet? I'd think that that'd be a dead giveaway that I was joking.
