SPOILERS: ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY - 10 Rumors Which Ended Up Being Bullsh*t

Just like The Force Awakens before it, we spent years reading rumours about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but a surprising amount ended up being false, and it's actually a real shame some were!

For some reason, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story didn't suffer from anywhere near as many concept art and plot leaks as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That could be because there wasn't as much excitement surrounding the movie or due to the fact that Disney and Lucasfilm tightened their security, but we've still had to sift our way through countless rumours ever since the project was announced.

Looking back on them now, it should come as no surprise to learn that the majority of those claims proved to be complete and utter bullsh*t. Some were related to the plot, while others were tied to supposed issues behind the scenes, and what you'll find here is a look at ten of the best and most surprising Rogue One: A Star Wars Story rumours which we ultimately discovered has no truth to them.

10. Jyn Erso Is The Daughter Of Boba Fett

Back in July 2015, we still knew very little about what to expect from Rogue One, but there had been rumblings for a while that Boba Fett might somehow factor into the movie. That started when Slave I was seemingly shown as being part of the its line of LEGO toys at a presentation for upcoming sets in Germany, but El Mayimbe would later claim on an episode of Meet the Movie Press that Felicty Jones' character was to be the daughter of the iconic bounty hunter.

While it's possible that was the plan when Josh Trank was still attached to direct the Boba Fett movie, it seems highly unlikely, especially when you consider how closely tied the character was to the Death Star's creation in Rogue One. Honestly, it's hard to believe this was ever the plan regardless of what Disney and Lucasfilm have in store for Fett somewhere down the line.

Talking of Boba Fett, it was around the time Rogue One was first announced that it was said that the movie would feature a team of bounty hunters hired by the Rebels to steal the Death Star plans. Having a group of villains be the ones responsible for essentially saving the Galaxy from the Empire was an interesting move, and one that seemed to make sense with other studios focusing on bad guy centric releases like Suicide Squad and the now scrapped Sinister Six.

We soon learned that that wouldn't be the case, but Bloody Disgusting later claimed that Boba Fett, Bossk, Dengar, Zuckuss & 4LOM, IG-88, and Cad Bane were going to be hired by Ben Mendelsohn's "Moff character" to take on the Rogue One team and stop them from getting those plans. Alas, not one of these guys showed up, but you know what, it would have been pretty cool!

8. Han Solo's Surprise Cameo

According to Variety, Lucasfilm planned on having Han Solo make a cameo appearance in Rogue One in order to set up his solo movie (pun most definitely intended) a couple of years from now. It made sense when you consider the fact that Alden Ehrenreich was confirmed for the role over the summer, the same time that this movie was undergoing some pretty extensive sounding reshoots.

Yes, his appearance probably would have felt forced, but no more so than R2-D2 and C-3PO and Princess Leia! Why this didn't happen is hard to say, but it likely has something to do with when Rogue One is set. The movie wraps up mere moments before A New Hope begins, and it looks like Han Solo will be set a good few years before that, hence why new actors are being cats in familiar roles rather than more weird CG doppelgangers.

7. Meet Supreme Leader Snoke

Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduced us to the mysterious Supreme Leader Snoke, a character who many believe will be revealed as a familiar character or someone who has some major ties to the long running Skywalker Saga. With any luck, we'll learn more about his history in Episode VIII, but for a time, most of us assumed we might meet a younger version of the villain in Rogue One.

It would have certainly made sense to flesh out his history here, hence why Fansided's claims that he was the shadowy figure in the trailer's bacta tank was easy enough to believe. Now we've seen the movie, we obviously know that it was Darth Vader in there, and the movie featured literally no clues or hints about Snoke's identity or history. That's an interesting move by Lucasfilm and leaves us with a lot to think about over the next year or so.

6. Jyn Erso Is Rey's Mother

Jyn Erso's name was discovered via some merchandising rights filed by Lucasfilm, and it didn't take TMZ long to claim that she would be the mother of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Rey. While it mostly seemed like speculation, many sites started running with the rumour, something which probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise considering the fact that it was a theory which had been doing the rounds ever since Felicity Jones had been cast.

After all, she is similar in appearance to Daisy Ridley, and that was more than enough for some to link the two. Considering the fact that Jyn dies at the end of Rogue One, we now know for sure this isn't the case, and that thankfully brings an end to the speculation and opens the door to some far more interesting possibilities regarding Rey's mother and father.

5. Billie Lourd Would Play A Young Princess Leia

Carrie Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd made a brief appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a character called Connix, but ReckNews would later claim that the actress had been asked to player Princess Leia in Rogue One. She doesn't exactly bear a striking resemblance to her mother, but it sort of made sense, and many quickly jumped on this being how the iconic character's cameo appearance would play out.

Of course, we now know that the young Leia was brought to life with CG, something which has been proved to be pretty divisive among fans. It has also recently been reported that Connix is going to have a much larger role in Episode VIII next year. Funnily enough, despite this report being complete nonsense, the site's guess that Rogue One might end with Leia getting the Death Star plans was spot on!

4. Who The Hell Is Diego Luna Playing?

There were some interesting theories about most of the new characters in Rogue One, but Diego Luna received perhaps the most attention outside of Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso. While it would ultimately be confirmed that he was playing someone called Captain Cassian Andor, various outlets had some other ideas about his identity, and they were both people fans of the franchise will be instantly familiar with.

Boba Fett was mentioned a few times, while one report stated outright that he had been cast as Luke Skywalker's old friend, Biggs Darklighter. Meanwhile, it was also said that he could be somehow related to Poe Dameron, with the assumption being that he was that fan-favourite's father or grandfather. Perhaps the most interesting report though said that Cassian will return, and while he may be dead, he does seem like the type to hang out with a certain smuggler, right?

3. Jyn Erso Lives

With Disney and Lucasfilm clearly making strong female characters in the Star Wars Saga a big priority, no one could quite imagine that Jyn Erso would be killed off here. Sure, it was highly likely that most of the Rogue One team would die, but not Felicity Jones' new heroine, right? Well, die she did, and that conflicts directly with a story saying that the studios were going out of its way to make sure that wouldn't happen.

We have of course since learned that the actress has a sequel option in her contract, but the only place we're likely to see her is in some sort of prequel to this prequel! Regardless, one of the more batsh*t theories to have done the rounds is the claim that Jyn would survive Rogue One and ultimately become the villainous Captain Phasma from Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

2. Agent Kallus' Live-Action Debut

Alistair Petrie's General Dravel is a new addition to the Star Wars canon, but when fans noticed that he was rocking some sideburns similar to Star Wars Rebels character Agent Kallus, it didn't take long until stories about them being one and the same showed up online. An Imperial with ties to Saw Gerrera, it's easy enough to understand why the connection was made, especially as the character's arc has revolved around his growing sympathies for the Rebellion.

Alas, it wasn't the case, and we've yet to see a significant link between the Disney XD series and live-action films. Rogue One did feature some nods to the show in the form of blink and you'll miss them cameos, but like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers, it looks like the divide between the big and small screen projects will remain in place for the time being.

1. Luke Skywalker's Return

Pretty much every borderline popular Star Wars character was rumoured to make some sort of appearance in Rogue One, but one of the most exciting possibilities mentioned was a young Luke Skywalker. No details were ever provided about what the beloved hero would do here, but it seemed to stem from a theory that Jyn would at some point spend some time on Tatooine. As we all now know, the planet was never even mentioned, and the only Skywalkers who made their presence felt here were Anakin and Leia!

While a cameo like this would have been fun to see, it's hard to imagine what sort of role he could have played outside of a pointless moment where he bumps into Jyn in the street or something. This simply didn't need to happen, and Luke's story is best left as the focus of the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII than an unrelated spinoff.
