Star Wars: Darth Vader? New Rumor Claims Hayden Christensen Will Return For Long-Awaited Movie

Ahead of his return as Anakin Skywalker in Ahsoka Season 2, a new rumour claims that Hayden Christensen has signed a deal with Lucasfilm, which will see him star in a Darth Vader movie.

Rogue One was supposed to be the first of several "A Star Wars Story" movies, but Solo's box office struggles changed Lucasfilm's rumoured plans. As a result, rumoured movies revolving around Yoda, Boba Fett, and Darth Vader were shelved.

Since then, Fett has returned in The Mandalorian and headlined his own Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett. Yoda has made cameo appearances in The Last Jedi and The Acolyte, while Hayden Christensen has reprised his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka.

The response to that has been overwhelmingly positive, and he'll return in Season 2 of the latter series next January. Still, fans are eager for even more of Christensen, both as Anakin and Vader.

As we first reported on SFFGazette.com earlier today, a rumour is gaining traction on social media which claims the actor, who made his Star Wars debut in 2002's Attack of the Clones, has signed a multi-picture deal with Disney and Lucasfilm. For now, we'd suggest taking this with a pinch of salt.

A Star Wars: Darth Vader movie is said to be in the early stages of development, which is the kind of fan-pleasing feature new Lucasfilm Chairman Dave Filoni might want to deliver to a dissatisfied fanbase. Presumably, AI would be used, as it was in Obi-Wan Kenobi, to replicate the late James Earl Jones' iconic performance as the Sith Lord.

"When we finished doing the prequels, it felt like that was it, and my journey with the character was over," the Revenge of the Sith star previously said of his Star Wars return. "So to get to come back now and do more with Anakin and Darth Vader was an amazing opportunity. I’m very grateful for the work that I got to do."

"The scenes that I got to do as Darth Vader on Obi-Wan, that was huge for me. Being able to add a little bit more connective tissue to the character and to bridge the gap into Vader a little bit more is a very worthwhile thing," he continued. "And the scenes that I got to do as Anakin on Ahsoka was a bucket-list item I didn’t even know I had."

Reflecting on his first Star Wars stint, Christensen added, "Even though I was a bit overwhelmed, I was also a confident young man, and I wanted to make my mark. But I guess if I were to have some advice for me during that general time in my life, it would be: 'Patience.' Because my journey with the character and with Star Wars has at times been a bumpy one… but I’m in a good place with it now. And so that’s why I say patience."

While the prequels covered Anakin's origin and Obi-Wan Kenobi picked up with a Vader in his prime, there are still plenty of gaps in the character's history that could be filled in with a movie. As of now, Lucasfilm has not announced any feature plans beyond next summer's Star Wars: Starfighter.

Do you think we'll see a Star Wars: Darth Vader movie? Should that be a priority for Lucasfilm? As always, you can let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

I don’t get what he would be doing though, surely you’d never see his face except maybe in the healing tank thingy?

@BeyondtheFuture - lots of ADR and clone war flash backs

If they depict Vader the way they did in Rogue One and (especially) Bad Batch, then yes, sure. But honestly, please don't. Shift all the Clone Wars-style animated shows to the period between the OT and the ST. Tell those stories there. Tell new stories at the movies. Or don't! That's fine, too. We have enough Star Wars.

@Clintthahamster - man. I really gotta finish Bad Batch.

I feel if Starfighter does well then we’ll definitely get post sequel trilogy stories which I would like.

Too little too late. Star Wars is suffering on the big screen. Mando and grogu did poorly at the box office.

What's the actual source for this? When you follow the chain backwards it seems it's just a tweet saying rumours started on August 20th. But started where?

I think it's time to put Star Wars to bed for a long time and don't awaken it from its sleep until they have a startlingly gripping story that reinvigorates the whole forking thing.

Disney somehow suffocated most joy from it. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is. It's like too much has been added to the canvass of Star wars that just isn't right. You just can't cheapen things the way Disney has and keep the value of that movie mythmaking intact. It all just starts to seem like cringey irrelevant cosplay or something.

@Lucasberg - blame Kathleen Kennedy for not having a plan to begin with then hiring the wrong people. Filioni and Favreau deserves blame too. Stop blaming Disney for everything
Lucasberg
Lucasberg - 8/28/2026, 4:39 PM
@dotherightthing - Oh I agree with you. I was just using Disney as the umbrella over it all but yes, Kennedy is cheifly to blame and Filoni and Favareu are out of their depth in the roles they've assumed. Those guys are fun but you need detail mythmaking nerds stewarding this or brilliant storytellers. They should force Tony Gilroy to steward the whole thing. Seems to be the only guy who understands the freakin assignment!

That's awesome news! I've always wanted Darth Vader to get his own movie to explore his backstory, because even though he's in all six Star Wars films, we barely know anything about him.

@Pampero - Other than he was born on Tatooine, was a slave, was trained by Obi Wan, hated sand, comitted mass murder, and not just the men, but the women and the children, married and knocked up Padme', who was apparently into child murder and had a choking fetish, killed some more kids, fought his former master and burned up in some lava while his kids were hidden for hin.

Other than that, we barely know anything about him. 🤣

Look I love Vader as much as the next guy but give him a break please…

I don’t mind Anakin/Vader being used in the service of other characters stories like Obi Wan and Ahsoka but his own is done imo thus I would rather not get more honestly.

I mean I know there are Vader comics that delve into his inner thoughts & feelings but you can’t necessarily do that on screen ao there would be no kind of arc & such for him to go through so it would just be 2 hours or so of him smashing through people and aura farming which admittedly has some appeal to me but not enough to want a whole film about him…

Maybe someone can come up with an idea that could be interesting for a Vader film but as of now , I don’t really have any interest if this is true.

P.S: so we would likely have AI used for James Earl Jones voice hence Hayden would just be in the suit like in Obi Wan but would we get Anakin flashbacks?.

You peddle lies and rumors when people could be talking about Batman Nightfall and Coyote vs. ACME.
