STAR WARS: John Boyega Says He's Now "Comfortable" To Move On From Finn After Past Criticisms

Star Wars sequel trilogy star John Boyega has been outspoken when it comes to his disappointment with the way Finn was handled in those movies, but now appears to have made peace with his time as the hero.

Heading into Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we were led to believe that the movie would tell the story of a former Stormtrooper, Finn, who discovers that he's a Jedi.

Rey was thought to be Han Solo and Princess Leia's secret daughter, though we suspected she might also be connected to the Force somehow. Ultimately, while both characters wielded a lightsaber in the 2015 movie, it was quickly established that Finn wasn't heading down the same route as his friend.

The Last Jedi completely wiped away any possibility of Finn being a Jedi, while The Rise of Skywalker saw J.J. Abrams try - and not very well, we might add - to suggest Finn is also Force-sensitive.

Actor John Boyega has never shied away from sharing his disappointment with the decisions made by Lucasfilm, criticising the fact they put him front and centre on posters, only to pull the rug out from the feet of moviegoers (and presumably him as well).

However, in an interview with The Times (via SFFGazette.com), the actor strongly hinted that he's made peace with his Star Wars past.

"For me, Star Wars has made the man, in a sense," Boyega said. "The experiences, the fun times, good times, ugly times, bad times, it makes you who you are as you navigate through the industry, and that has definitely been interesting."

"I feel like the arc that J.J. tried to tie up, that’s where I feel comfortable with the release of him," he continued. "Since then, I’ve been able to enjoy, as a fan, The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi. I’m enjoying the balance of all things."

This is quite the contrast to when he previously shared a message with Lucasfilm that said, "Do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important to the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It’s not good." Boyega isn't wrong there and the studio definitely dropped the ball.

Unfortunately, we not banking on him returning for them to make things right as the Finn actor has said on multiple occasions that he's done with the Star Wars franchise.

We can always hope Boyega changes his mind, though!

''the arc that J.J. tried to tie up''

So inventing a completely new one? I don't mind Finn being force sensitive, but it's such a waste they did nothing with him being a ex-stormtrooper.

@bkmeijer1 - One of the biggest mistakes of the sequels was the posed potential on Finn’s storyline. I remember the TFA trailers painting it that it would deal with his PTSD and we’d get some juicy character moments from a former storm trooper. And then he gets turned into comedic relief.

@ObserverIO - did you watch the movie? his whole rivalry with phasma and fight was based on how he was treated as a storm trooper. his past imperial experience came into play many times to help progress the story. hell they made memes about his rivalry with tra8tr storm trooper. could there have been more yes, but his time as a storm trooper certainly played a factor in the story and his arc. i do wish they followed through on the ray/finn obvious romance spark from 7 and had them both be force sensitive. he could carry disney plus show post sequels easily to explore being a force wielder. him and daisy would make a great show in my opinion.

His character had so much potential! It was so interesting, a stormtrooper who fought against his “programming”. Then the 2nd movie said forget about it!

@JonAwesome - I would argue the second movie didn't forget about it. The opposite even. It made going against his programming literal by having Finn facing it directly (by flying into the crawling death laser machine)

Someone in Hollywood? Listening to criticism? And not blaming audiences? I must be dreaming.

I don’t want to assume that Finn doesn’t have fans, but this dude has such a bloated ego.

Bruv, you’re not Michael B Jordan. Chill out 😂
