STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Begins Its Box Office Domination

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is expected to become one of, possibly even the most profitable movie of all time by the end of its box office run, and it's off to a very good start having amassed an impressive sum after only 1 day of release internationally. Details past the jump...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens previews kick of in the U.S. tonight, but the movie opened in 12 foreign markets on Wednesday, beginning its B.O. run with a collective $14.1M. J.J. Abrams' critically acclaimed return to the galaxy far, far away is expected to earn between $180M-$220M over the weekend domestically, and such an impressive start to its international haul puts it well on the way to surpassing that on foreign soil - possibly even reaching Jurassic World‘s international debut record of $316.1M.

It remains to be seen if The Force Awakens smashes the all-time box office records held by the likes of Titanic ($2.18bn) and Avatar ($2.78bn) of course, but one thing's for sure: it deserves to. You can check out my 5 star review here, and be sure to let us know your B.O. predictions in the usual place.

Just saw it. A Very Good movie, but just under ‘Great’. Imo, better than all the rest, except obviously the first two, with a lot of similar themes & beats to Ep. IV.

JJ is definitely a fanboy tho, and gets Star Wars a lot more than the guy who directed the prequels.

My theater nearly tripled it's non 3D showings for tomorrow. Originally there were only about 6 showings. I think the final numbers that trickle in on Monday are going to be crazy. It has a 94% Rotten Tomatoes rating, so I doubt it can get lower than 90% at this point, so I definitely think that will fuel repeat business and entice new Star Wars watchers. I'm going out on a limb, but I foresee a $275 to possibly $300 million domestic opening alone.

A pile of dogshit on the side of the road should earn more money than Avatar.

I honestly don't think any film next year will be able to hold a candle to TFA's box office intake.

I'm just happy it seems this film is out and it looks like I will finally have a good Star Wars film come out in my life.

Now let's get with Episode 8. Rian Johnson is a genius. I cant wait to see what he's scheming up.

JJ paid respected to the OT in 7.
Rian will likely do something that will shake up SW in a new way in 8.

@aXe

Ive just seen the film so I knew the spoilers were real, and they were major ones.
It was in the BvS lego article BTW. I reported it but don't know if that will stop it.

I don't get people who want to ruin other peoples experiences by posting spoilers.
Surely they would have been pissed if it had happened to them?

@TheNightmareVirus

It's a fresh user account, obviously set up to just post spoilers on threads.
I've reported a couple of these users in the past hour. Stay of the comment sections if you haven't seen the movie. Some people are just c*nts.
