STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Star Dominic Monaghan Shares Hopes To Reprise Beaumont Kin Role (Exclusive)

Moonhaven star Dominic Monaghan reflects on the experience of making Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and shares his hopes to reprise the role...if there's room for him in this Galaxy Far, Far Away...

It's hard to find a major franchise Dominic Monaghan hasn't been part of. After making a name for himself as Merry in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the actor went on to star in Lost, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, ticking off some real bucket list projects for any performer.

Talking to us about his roles in Moonhaven and Moriarty: The Devil's Game (we'll be sharing the full interview later this week), Monaghan reflected on his trip to a Galaxy Far, Far Away and explained what it meant to him to be part of the Star Wars Universe as the heroic Beaumont Kin.

"The Star Wars franchise is extraordinary and really moulding in terms of the modern-day industry of making films, certainly in the West. It was hugely influential to be involved with something like that," the actor enthuses in the video below. "The reason that I became an actor was Star Wars, so it was great to come full circle. I had a blast."

"I’m really good friends with J.J. [Abrams] and I’d been giving him a hard time for a while about putting me in Star Wars and we eventually figured something out. It was great to be on set with those iconic characters and it was a really fun experience for me," Monaghan continues. "I’m always supportive of J.J.’s work because he’s someone I’ve seen working up close on set, and he’s about as talented as anyone else. I think Star Wars has been found by new generations of people since the first ones came out and has spawned a whole bunch of new fans."

"We’ve been going to these conventions over the past few months or so and the appetite for Star Wars seems about as strong as it’s ever been. It’s a fun Galaxy to hang out in and, who knows, perhaps at some point they’ll tell more stories about the character I played and I can do it again."

On that note, we wondered if he would want to reprise the role. After all, Star Wars has expanded massively since 2019 thanks to Disney+, and there have been rumblings for a while now that we'll eventually head to that post-The Rise of Skywalker timeline.

As for the actor's Resistance fighter, he survived the Battle of Exegol and has since shown up in various comic books and novels. With that in mind, it feels like there has to be more that can be done with Beaumont, right?

"I’ve been told by a lot of people online that he’s been featured in these new Star Wars comics and graphic novels and novels about the Star Wars canon. So, Beaumont is still alive and well and doing his thing," Monaghan ponders. "It would be great to show up and do something."

"Quite rightly, the Star Wars Universe is telling more stories about women and people from different cultures and backgrounds. Maybe they’re done with telling stories of mid-40-year-old white guys, but I’m always available if they’re interested."

In previous interviews, Monaghan has talked about many of his scenes being cut, no great surprise when there was so much story to squeeze into this divisive final chapter of the Skywalker Saga. It's no wonder then that he's keen to return in a future movie or TV show, and we'd love to see both Beaumont and the Resistance better explored in one of those.

Would you like to see more The Lord of the Rings alum in this Galaxy Far, Far Away?

@dracula - But it was the biggest casting news of Episode 9. JJ Abrams lost a bet so he gave him a bigger role than Kelly Marie Tran who played Rose in TLJ. Gotta love JJ Abrams and KK's choices for Star Wars.

@supermanrex - Just block those whose comments consistently ruin your positive day. It's a start. Why read the same bullshit from the same people every day?

Plus, it saves you time.

@LSHF - its just hard to find a fun nerd space where people are genuinely enjoying all the goodness out there and not being toxic and butthurt over every single thing.

@supermanrex - I understand. That's why I block the toxic commenters. It doesn't hurt them, I doubt that they give a f#ck what I think, and it helps make things more enjoyable here by being less unenjoyable.

Besides, people actually get paid to go to websites and start toxicity, because it gives the sites extra pages of clickbait. And some people here seem to be doing just that.

@LSHF - oh yeah. i see it too. cause im like how is one person just be unhappy about everything that comes out. if they truly are then you are obviously in the wrong field of hobby and need to find another genre. cause barking and bitching at everything Feige and or Kathleen Kennedy puts out cant be good for that blood pressure. Ha!

@supermanrex @LSHF - some people just like to bitch I guess. Think at one point you don't even notice you're doing it at all anymore.

Blocking them definitely makes it better on here though. I recommend it too

@supermanrex - Yes it makes ZERO sense to spend valuable time going to sites and complain about things that nothing can be done about (on our end, anyway), over and over and over and over again, and again, and again.

It's very suspect.

@bkmeijer1 - I guess that's true too many times.

I also recommend frequent self examinations of ones' behavior. There are SO MANY other things that are SO MUCH more enjoyable to spend one's time doing to bitching all of the time.

@LSHF - I do like to bitch about things from time to time though, ain't gonna change that. But yeah, I often write a comment and than just decide not to post it because of that.

@bkmeijer1 - Same. Sometimes I like to get it out of my system by typing it, then that is as far as it goes.

But most of the things I complain about are things that are being stated here.

@LSHF - I do tend to agree with some general critiques too. I just don't see the point in repeating that every single article, and from what I can tell (as I don't see you complain often, if at all) neither do you

Complaining isn't much fun.

Complaining about complaining is fun though. I like it when things get meta

You know, I actually think I needed to see his picture here. Because I don't think they ever said his character's name throughout the entire trilogy. What a waste of an amazing actor.

I completely forgot he was in the movie. Like most talented people he was given a small shit role just like Max von Sydow and the gents from the Raid movies.

He filled the Basil Exposition role. He was literally just there to bring forward an explanation as to why they couldn’t just lightspeed through the bad guys.

I think it is cool that he got to bringing his acting carreer full circle with this. I just wish it was in a different role though.

It feels like JJ created this character just to replace Rose, and to give his friend a role. Don't know which of these reasons followed from the other, or if either is true at all though.
