Will We See Hong Kong Star Donnie Yen In STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII?
A new report has surfaced that claims Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade 2) has reportedly been attached to Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII. To see more details and Yen's possible role, hit the jump to check it out!
Apple Daily (a Hong Kong tabloid) reports that Donnie Yen has been added to Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII, and he will start to film his scenes with Harrison Ford next month! Yen's role? Well, as of now, the word is out that Yen will play a Jedi in the eighth installment in the franchise.
The report also says that the film's producers had to decide on Donnie Yen or Jet Li. As you can see, Yen was eventually picked because Jet Li wanted twice the amount of money Donnie Yen agreed to!
Even though the Hong Kong tabloid says he's signed on for Star Wars: Episode VIII, Twitch Film reports that he could possibly have signed on for Gareth Edwards' Rogue one. "We had heard rumblings that Gareth Edwards and his crew were circling a number of Chinese actors for a part in his standalone film Rogue One, which just started shooting last week."
If you're not too familiar with the name, Donnie Yen has appeared in Hollywood films such as, Highlander, Shanghai Knights, and Blade 2. But if really want to see Yen in action, I recommended you take a look at some of his international performances. Most notably, his Ip Man films. What do you think about this news? Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to hit theaters May 26, 2017.
