STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Is The Top-Selling Blu-Ray Release Of 2018, Beating BLACK PANTHER & More

Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi certainly seems to be a divisive entry in the iconic sci-fi saga, but it still managed to top the list of best-selling Blu-ray releases in the United States in 2018.

For a movie that's been deemed divisive by many fans, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is certainly doing well for itself on home release.

Rian Johnson's adventure in the galaxy far, far away topped the list of the best-selling Blu-ray titles in The US with 3,019,432 units, comfortably beating Marvel's Black Panther which took second place with 2,626,921 units. Thor: Ragnarok, Disney's Coco and The Greatest Showman make up the rest of the top 5.

Ummm, maybe people were buying it just to make 100% certain that they hated it?

Check out the list in full HERE, and be sure to let us know what you think of this inexplicable development in the comments down below.

But I was told by experts on here that this film was hated by everyone! Maybe some people are buying the blu-rays in bulk "to protect others"...

Star Wars fans will say they hate a movie and still preorder the Blu-Ray just so they won't have an incomplete collection.

@BIGBMH - I'l probably be one of those if IX is any good.

My sister hasn't seen it, but she was gonna buy the TLJ Blu-ray for me. I said "no thanks" and she was dumbstruck. She was like "But it's Star Wars" and I was just like "Yep.."
That's what it took for her to understand how much I hated the movie.

It's weird, I think if the critics hadn't overly praised the movie I would have liked it more. Some made out it was the greatest movie ever 5/5, A+ and 10 Stars, yet there are clear problems (I don't mean if you liked or not if it did what you wanted).

Things like pacing, flat character arcs, inconsistent characters and a lack of moving the story as a whole forward, for me it lacked a fresh take on the fight between good and evil and all this seemes to be ignored in many reviews

So, while I thought the movie was OK, I was disappointed as I was expecting something amazing based on reviews and it was just OK.

That's just my opinion, some will agree some won't and that's cool.

Justice League was 6th, imagine if the movie was actually positively received.

The reason why The Last Jedi has the most sales is that it has the most multi-packs.

To get rid of shelfwarming Blu-Rays, Blu-Ray films were released as multi-packs. This includes all films with sequels, prequels, remakes and reboots.

Excluding these packs from the equation and judging based on the films individual appeal on Blu-Ray, the most selling would be;

1. Coco
2. The Greatest Showman
3. Ferdinand
4. Wonder
5. Peter Rabbit

Which gives a general sense of the Blu-Ray demographic - family films, primarily facing a 'U' or PG audience.
