Back in May, 20th Century Studios released the first poster and teaser trailer for The Creator. It came pretty much out of nowhere, but after that sneak peek dropped, excitement for the upcoming sci-fi action thriller immediately went through the roof.

Director Gareth Edwards made a name for himself helming Monsters and entered the blockbuster realm by later taking charge of Godzilla and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The latter faced some issues behind-the-scenes, though what actually happened - and the extent of Edwards' role in those reshoots - has never been made clear.

Regardless, The Creator looks like another must-see project from the British director and a new look at the movie has been revealed on two Total Film magazine covers (via SFFGazette.com). What little we see here looks incredible, and John David Washington is definitely every bit the sci-if hero if this latest sneak peek is any indication.

Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua, a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife, is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war...and mankind itself.

Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory, only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.

The movie stars Washington (Tenet), Gemma Chan (Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles and Academy Award winner Allison Janney (I, Tonya).

Gareth Edwards and Chris Weitz penned The Creator's screenplay, from a story by Edwards. The filmmaker also produces alongside Kiri Hart, Jim Spencer, and Arnon Milchan. while the executive producers are Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Nick Meyer, and Zev Foreman.

The Creator is set to be released in theaters on September 29.

@GhostDog - This might sound weird, but it kinda has the vibe of all the sci-fi concept art I find on the web that makes me think "Wow that looks cool, they should do a movie about that"

@Fares - wow you just made the perfect connection. This is EXACTLY THAT. I follow all those concept art pages on DeviantArt, ArtStation and more.

@GhostDog - Bruh same. I could easily waste a whole day on Artstation just staring at desolate cyberpunk landscapes and futuristic soldiers.

@Fares - its one of my consistent lunch break activities, just scrolling though pages and accounts of cyberpunk art.

@GhostDog - Have you watched Amazon's Tales from the Loop? It's a one-season series based on the work of the artist Simon Stålenhag. It looks right up my alley in terms of aesthetics and it has solid ratings, but I'm yet to dedicate some time to it.

I hope this film is good because it looks incredible and it's an original IP💪

One of my most anticipated movies. I worry they may have shown too much in trailers, but it looks incredible. Love when a big budget original sci-fi film comes around. Hope it delivers.

It's always nice when a trailer alone gets you immediately excited for an original movie that you had no idea about. I hope it sticks the landing.

Read that the budget for this is a mere 86mil. Insane seeing the visuals here compared to current 250mil movies. Shows what happens when you have a director with a clear vision and ability behind them

@Cap1 - £86million! And to think £250miplion for the Flash gets you......well we know what happened

Looks cool , I’ll definitely be checking it out

I haven’t seen Monsters but honestly while I have not loved Gareth Edwards other works such as Godzilla & Rogue One (though I know the latter’s troubled production history) , they have still been enjoyable to an extent so I’m sure this will be the same at the least.

The timely and prescient nature of the story should also help it connect with some aswell.

Movie looks great aesthetically, but I can’t imagine two leads with less charisma & chemistry than John David and Gemma Chan

A billion times more interesting than Rebel Moon.

So they are going to have zero charisma guy who does not have the acting skills to lead a big movie leading another big movie.

Using this logic, after the Dead Reckoning movies are over, they should have Alden Ehrenreich do the next MI movie as Ethan Hunt.

i saw this image and thought for sure it was a backstory about the creation of Darth Vader from Anakin, possibly even that Anakin had a hand in creating his own hardware based on his mechanical prowess as had been shown up until that point.
JonC
JonC - 7/14/2023, 2:41 PM
@JonC - that he had in fact 'created' what we know as Darth Vader literally.

@McMurdo - OH! OK, now it makes sense to me. I was thinking watching Tenet "how did this untalented bore get the lead role in this, is he some rich kids son who has connections?!" Turns out I was right on the money lol.
