BLACK ADAM Star Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Key In Henry Cavill's Superman Return; Solo Movie Could Be Incoming

We may finally have some good news about what the future holds in store for Henry Cavill's Superman as a new report suggests Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson has been instrumental in his return as Kal-El.

The last time Henry Cavill stood in front of a camera and played Superman was for 2017's Justice League. That was for those embarrassing reshoots that resulted in him appearing in the movie with a CG jawline, and the belief since then is that neither the actor nor Warner Bros. could come to an agreement about his future as the Man of Steel.

That's why we got a headless Superman cameo in Shazam! and little more than a silhouette in Peacemaker, but could Cavill be nearing a deal to return to the DCEU?

Following rumblings that Cavill will reprise the role for a cameo in this month's Black Adam, Devin Faraci, the disgraced former Editor-in-Chief of Birth. Movies. Death., claims (via The Direct) that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson deserves the credit for bringing Cavill back into the fold as Superman.

"Henry Cavill is appearing in 'Black Adam' in the post-credits scene...Henry Cavill has returned as Superman in 'Black Adam' because The Rock demanded it. He went hard, full-court press on Warner Bros., and made them go to Henry Cavill and they had to sign a new deal with Henry Cavill, including saying they were gonna develop a new 'Superman' movie."

"It was all because The Rock insisted," he concluded, reiterating what many online scoopers have been saying in recent days.

If this is true, it's huge. It would also mean that Superman has a concrete future in whatever comes next for the DCEU, cementing him as this shared world's Clark Kent. Johnson and Cavill are friends and share an agent in Dany Garcia, so The Rock would definitely have the sway at Warner Bros. to make his return a reality.

Now, all eyes will be on Black Adam to see what happens. Hopefully, news of a Man of Steel sequel is incoming, and it's exciting to think that Warner Bros. might be laying the groundwork for the long-awaited battle between Superman, Black Adam, and Shazam.

Black Adam arrives in theaters on October 21. Do you think Cavill's Superman is finally set to return?

If this is true, then thank you Dwayne Johnson for finally giving us Man of Steel 2. Lord knows DC wouldn't have thought to do it.

@KWilly - DC has approached Henry Cavill many times.

You think they didn't ask him back for that Shazam cameo? He keeps refusing.

That's why I know this is bullshit.
"...because The Rock demanded it. He went hard, full-court press on Warner Bros., and made them go to Henry Cavill..."

It's not like they hadn't thought of it and were folding their arms refusing to ask Cavill back and all it took was The Rocks threatening demeanor. lol.
this is silly.

@ObserverIO - It's entirely possible that Cavill really was just holding out for a contract for another movie (i.e. money also). And that the old guard was committed to doing a cheaper Supergirl solo instead in a post-Flash timeline.

Whatever is going on at WB, it doesn't feel like they're in the mindset to follow through with any particular medium-term plan, even if a lot of people are celebrating this story.

@Spock0Clock - If Michael De Luca has greenlit a Superman movie it won't be any more expensive than that HBO Max Supergirl flick or Joker 2: The Musical or Constantine 2.

We would also have probably heard rumblings of it before hearing about a cameo, too.

But yes, I guess it's possible. Anything's possible. Nothing surprises me anymore about WBD.

@ObserverIO - was supergirl going to be a HBOMax film?
ObserverIO

@Arthorious - Yeah, like Batgirl, both set in the "Spaghettiverse" (the Burtonverse/Snyderverse combination that is set to debut in The Flash movie).

@KWilly - this is a lose lose for him and he’s stupid for returning if he does. Hope I’m wrong but meh. He isn’t the first Superman but the worlds moved on.

I take back what i said about the Rock and his ego, he's the new Messiah, me and and my extended family of 64 members just bought tickets for the first screening of Black Adam.

I can finally smell what he's cookin.

@Doomsday8888 - No,no,no... Ezra Miller is the Messiah,Iron Eyes is the Spider-Goddess of the End of the World and serves as both Ezra's mother and lover and The Rock is their Holy Child who will bring about the Return of Henry Cavill and is prophesised to forever change the Hierarchy of Power in the Universe.

Do keep up. lol

If true it's crazy how it took The Rock to make Warner Bros sign on a new movie about one of the greatest superheroes of all time, especially when there is clearly high demand. Why is it so hard for them to have common sense. "Superman movie? Preposterous! Flash movie with Ezra Miller? Yeah, sure, why not?"

@bobevanz - Nah I live in the city just go to the mountains a lot. I am just really picky of what gets me to the theaters these days. I’ve been going to Alamo Drafthouse and watching classics more than new movies and waiting for the new ones to watch at home. Raiders of the Lost Ark last week and Beetlejuice tonight!

@mountainman - HBO max is dead. They canceled raised by wolves, their best show from where I sit. If they don’t understand their out put and audience they’re done. Welcome to the internet friend. Start making shows because these losers are bankrupt and need you

I haven't even seen a popular fancast to replace him. And Cavill's got a decent-sized fan base. So it makes sense to continue on with him.
Superspecialawesomeguy
Superspecialawesomeguy - 10/7/2022, 10:03 AM
@99OPTIMISTPRIME - I'd say the most popular fancast (and my personal favorite for the role) would have to be David Corenswet, he just ticks off too many boxes for me to even consider anyone else for the part imo.

Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/7/2022, 10:55 AM
@Superspecialawesomeguy - I like Corenswet as Superman, but I also like him a lot as Cyclops. DC's loss may be Marvel's gain in this case.
Superspecialawesomeguy
Superspecialawesomeguy - 10/7/2022, 1:20 PM
@Spock0Clock - I wouldn't hate it but I think he might be too tall imo (he's 6'4' while I would prefer the person playing Cyclops to be 6'0'-6'2'personally) plus how could you possibly cover up those dreamy eyes of his lol!

I don't want to hear about any more DC movies getting getting planned with any of the current actors.

I liked Cavill as Superman. But the overall DCEU will continue suffering if they do this. They need to do a hard reboot. Recast everyone. Forget about everything that came before. And start completely fresh.

It's the only way to fix things without having the stench of the previous decade smelling up the place.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/7/2022, 8:09 AM
@CorndogBurglar - It's kind of amazing to watch a franchise continue to limp along like this without ever being particularly well-liked by the general audience. Fast and the Furious had that stretch early on when it felt like a zombie franchise like this and then took off like a rocket, so I guess a radical turn around is possible.
