BOX OFFICE: MAN OF STEEL Remains #1 In The UK Despite Competition From WORLD WAR Z

Despite being one of a few comic book movies not to open in the UK ahead of the rest of the world and the fact that Superman is very much viewed as an American icon, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel has thrived in its second week of release. Read on for details!

Monsters University doesn't open in the UK until next month (See? We don't get EVERYTHING first...), so Man of Steel only had one serious competitor this past weekend; World War Z. However, despite an aggressive advertising campaign by Paramount, the Zack Snyder directed and Christopher Nolan produced reboot came out on top for a second week in a row. In North America, Man of Steel fell to third place. Despite a drop of 55% in ticket sales, it just managed to beat World War Z and faced no real competition from new releases, Before Midnight and Snitch. The UK box office top ten in full can be found below along with some updates from across the pond.

1. (1) Man of Steel - £5,073,356
2. (-) World War Z - £4,535,899
3. (2) After Earth - £432,881
4. (5) Behind the Candelabra - £367,888
5. (3) The Hangover Part III - £316,888
6. (-) Snitch - £268,229
7. (4) Epic - £251,038
8. (-) Before Midnight - £244,231
9. (6) Fast & Furious 6 - £160,851
10. (7) The Great Gatsby - £158,927

Haha, that's irony if you ever saw it.

An American hero as #1 in UK, and the foreign UN Zombie movie as #2 in the U.S., higher than said American hero film.

And don't even get me started on the Brit playing Supes, lol.

Now get to work, Fox!

@CoulsonLives I remember reading comment on articles when Henry was announced as Supes and some Americans stated they had no interest in seeing a Superman film with a Brit playing Superman.Alot of Americans are extremely patriotic,so I'd say it definetly made a difference...........I want a flash movie too.I think with a decent script and director,it can be extremely successful.

Us Brits are carrying CBM's on the big screen. Superman, Spiderman and the GOAT Batman all played by Brits. You had Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen carrying the X-Men movies, now the franchise is being carried by Mcavoy and Michael "mother[frick]ing" Fassbender. Best performances in Thor were from Hiddleston and Hopkins two more Brits.
[frick] it just make sure that every new hero is being played by a Brit, get Cumberbatch who was clearly above everyone acting wise in STID as Doc Strange and Tennant for Pym.

Both Blade and John Constantine are British yet we're played by Americans with American accents.
When British actors are cast as the villain, yanks don't complain.

God, Us Brits are so talented! We just fit in to CBM's so easily. Never works the other way round when the likes of Braveheart and the Robin Hoods are taken over by foreign actors

Brits have a smoother transition into the roles of a CBM. God Bless Scotland!!...and the bit to the South too
