A possible frontrunner for the DCU's Superman has been revealed, and while we won't call the choice "controversial," we're sure you'll all have something to say! Find everything we know so far right here.

UPDATE: Unsurprisingly, James Gunn has now responded to this rumour...

Henry Cavill made his long-awaited return as Superman in last October's Black Adam, announcing he was back as the Man of Tomorrow just a couple of days after that hit theaters.

Talk of a Man of Steel sequel began immediately, though we'd soon learn that the actor hadn't officially signed up for any future appearances. Weeks later, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios was formed, and Cavill soon learned this his time as Superman had reached its end.

Gunn is now writing a new Superman movie, with a younger actor expected to be cast as a Clark Kent who is a cub reporter in Metropolis at this point in his life. While it won't be an origin story, this fresh take on the character promises to put him front and centre in the new DCU.

Who will play the new Kal-El? According to gossip site @Deuxmoi, the current frontrunner is an Australian actor who currently stars in an HBO teen show and previously appeared in a Netflix romcom trilogy.

Before we get into their identity, we should point out that this source also broke the news that Barry Keoghan had been cast as The Joker in The Batman and revealed Lady Gaga was being eyed to play Joker: Folie à Deux's Harley Quinn. That's a pretty solid track record when it comes to DC scoops.

As for our possible Superman's identity, it's almost certainly Euphoria and The Kissing Booth's Jacob Elordi. We actually included the actor in our recent breakdown of possible candidates for the role, and while he's never played a character like this before, Elordi certainly looks the part.

A relative unknown to wider audiences but an actor with a built-in fanbase, the 25-year-old seems a fitting choice to make Superman his own and play the hero in the DCU across multiple projects (including an eventual Justice League reboot with any luck).

Nothing is confirmed at this point, but let us know your thoughts on this news in the comments section!

So it's Elordi then huh? I trust you, James. He's given some great performances and I can buy that Jacob can give us that classic Supes charm.

I think it´s a good choice, just have to gain a little more muscles...

@cadunovaesbr - I can go either way on muscles for superman. Either the sun pumps him up or he is naturally built but lean because how else would he pump up?

@cadunovaesbr - he's muscular right now, so he won't need to gain too much. he could always hop on the tren train too lmao

he's been my top choice for the role - he's a good actor and he looks the part, when most of the fan-casts i've seen mostly just focus on the latter. deuxmoi is hit/miss but they were right on keoghan joker & gaga harley.

I don't understand why it took several paragraphs to just say the name of the actor. Lately, it's hard to find prompt information in internet articles without having to read long introductions or even history lessons.

@DPSNUMBER1 - I’m just happy it’s not one his lists… I consider this a slight improvement but still got ways to go.

@MisterDoctor217 -

Even tho his physical appearance is Superman , his aura and what he transmits doesn’t scream Clark Kent to me. He seems a bit too smug.

I think Supes should have that Boy Scout quality.
Which Cavill also didn’t have lol

I'm 90% sure that the only reasons people have for even considering him for Superman are to do with his physical appearance because nothing in his performances or personal demeanour make him feel even an ounce like Clark Kent tbh.

If they want a great actor who looks the part and practically exudes that Clark Kent aura then David Corenswet has to be the man for the job imo.

@MisterDoctor217 - That is exactly what I was thinking! I havent seen him act but in still shots he looks very smug and maybe a little pompous. I will have to watch him in something soon and see if it changes my mind.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - if Corenswet isn't Supes then he should be Cyclops in the Xmen reboot!

I seriously doubt it. He doesn’t have that charisma that Clark Kent needs nor really the acting. His skill sets lean towards a Boy Scout that’s waiting to unload energy of anger and pain. His Charisma say Charmy but cocky. A leader but with something to prove.

If he is the new Superman then congratulations to him and I hope he gives it his all but I see him more of being the next person to play Scott Summers/Cyclops. That’s the comic book character I hope he plays.
