Brit actor Hugh Laurie, who was to play Daily Planet Editor in Chief Perry White in Bryan Singer's Superman movie, will instead be busy doing episodes of House, the Fox TV hit medical drama.

House, which is also produced by Singer, will get an early start in its second season, returning in August instead of September or October, says Entertainment Weekly.

"House's likely early return means Laurie won't be able to play the role of Perry White in Singer's new Superman movie, now filming in Australia," the article in this week's edition says. "But Laurie considers House 'a winning lottery ticket,' and besides he doesn't need a huge superhero franchise to confirm his newfound star status," EW said.

There's no word on Laurie's replacement in the role.
