A spy for Ain’t It Cool News snuck into the backroom at Warner Bros. where the new Superman movie is being developed. The sneak got a look at storyboards, models and the producers’ dream cast sheet.

The pre-production is using the secret working title of “Flyby” to throw off the curious, the source said. However, right under the signage for “Flyby” was the
Superman chest emblem and a giant Superman statue was in the backroom in a way that it could be seen from the building window.

Although J.J. Abrams’ original script is being reworked, “the movie will still be about Superman fighting his cousin Tyzor and the battle on Krypton. There is a model of the Kent farm which looks like any other farm in Kansas. There is a model of the launch chamber where Jor-el will send Kal-el to earth. The ship looks a little like the one in the Smallville show except it has the ‘S’ emblem on it,” the source said.

Other details:

  • There was a model of Superman fighting a Kryptonian tank in the middle of Metropolis. The tank looks like a mix between Robocop’s ED 209 and the rolling ‘droids of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

  • ”Clark finds his Superman costume in that little Kryptonian canister in his mothers closet. He tries it on and flies around the Kent farm as Superboy right at the camera. Then the scene will change and he will be all grown up still flying at the camera.”

  • ”Tyzor’s costume will be green with yellow shoulder pads and a yellow stomach plate. Tyzor will throw Superman down and he will land about five feet deep into the street. Superman then jumps out of the hole and uses his heat vision full blast on Tyzor. There was also a scene where Superman and Tyzor knock over a crane with a wrecking ball on it, and Tyzor rips the wrecking ball off of the crane by the wire and starts to beat Superman into the street with it,” the source said, describing the storyboards he saw.

  • There’ll be Kryptonian soldiers that look like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dressed as Samurai swordsmen in light blue armor.

  • Headshots of unknowns for the lead Clark Kent/Superman role were accompanied by magazine cut-outs of what seemed to be the producers’ dream cast including Jake Gyllenhaal (for the lead): Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Elisha Cuthbert for Lois Lane; Adam Brody, and Topher Grace for Jimmy Olsen; Sean Penn as Katazor; unknowns for Tyzor; Dennis Quaid as Jonathan Kent; Jim Carrey, Jonny Depp, Will Ferrell, and Robert Downey Jr. as Lex Luthor; Ben Kingsley as Jor-El.

Meanwhile, Time magazine is still listing Jude Law, Brendan Fraser and Ashton Kutcher as being in the running for the lead. Charlie’s Angels director McG is expected to direct.
