i'm actually kinda hoping that they'll kill off Jane to add some gravity to the film.
we know that Thor risks the lives of his fellow Asgardians, but he needs to learn something REAL. it would give him cause to really go after Loki or whoever the God of Mischief is manipulating.
and that would give Thor cause to continue his fatuation with Sif.

@Wadey09 That's EXACTLY what I hope happens. Hemsworth hedged a bit in his interview with Brent about whether or not the Jane Foster relationship set up anything for future films. Jane's death, sacrificing herself for Thor but extracting a promise for him to defend Earth would so totally sell the series and Thor's change from arrogant warrior to noble defender.

@anil If they stay fairly true the comics' run, we'll see lots of Jane early, and then lots of Sif later in the series.

oops, I missed the bit where she said she'd be in future Thor films until I watched it again. Ah well...

If they don't kill her, and I hope they do, there is another way they can make this work with Jane Foster. They can leave her alive and do a love triangle with Sif-Thor-Jane in Thor 2 with Sif as the "I love you Thor but mortals are stupid" and Jane as the "thou canst love a mortal, Thor" from Odin and Thor as the caught in between his duty to Asgard/Sif and his feelings for Earth/Jane.

That might work, but a dead Jane pays a lot of emotional dividends.
