We recently learned that Daredevil: Born Again will end with its upcoming third season. Fans had been wondering about the lack of news on a potential fourth batch of episodes, though the decision to wrap up the series was seemingly made fairly recently.
That's likely down to low viewership and the Man Without Fear's series not necessarily fitting into Marvel Studios' vision for the post-Avengers: Secret Wars MCU.
The biggest mystery is why Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane has been let go before finishing work on the series. He was hailed as the show's saviour following Season 1's creative overhaul, delivering two Certified Fresh seasons for Marvel Television (87% and 86%, respectively).
Now, it's been confirmed that reshoots are underway on Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. The prevailing opinion is that changes are being made to the show to give it a satisfying series finale, likely removing any hints or teases for the now-scrapped Season 4.
The hope from here is that Daredevil will make his presence felt in the next Spider-Man movie. Ultimately, that may be the only good thing to come out of the show's cancellation.
"It feels like we've shed the skin of the Mayor Fisk era. It feels like it's a new book, a new dawn a little bit," Charlie Cox previously said of Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. "It's still a continuation, obviously, but it's slightly different. I can't give anything away, but it's a new thing, which is fun."
Scardapane echoed that when he said, "Season 1 and season 2 are Part 1 and Part 2. It feels that way. I think there's also a Part 3 to that story, but I need to be very quiet about that. The ballad of Fisk and Murdock has, in my mind, an ebb and flow. In season 1, Fisk is triumphant. In season 2, it ends in a manner that there are consequences for each of those characters."
"We talked earlier about how in season 2, Fisk is fully Kingpin and Murdoch is fully Daredevil, and there's a consequence to that, and that's where we're heading next," he continued. "Anything that comes after each of these should feel like it's all moving in the same direction and is all part of a piece. One day that might come to an end. I don't see that day yet."
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3's cast includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, Nikki M. James as Kirsten McDuffie, Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Clark Johnson as Cherry, and Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles.
Krysten Ritter, meanwhile, will return as Jessica Jones, alongside Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, and Elodie Yung as Elektra Natchios.
The series is expected to return to Disney+ next March.
