VisionQuest's third episode, titled "Reboot," establishes that a killer is on the loose and that Vision may well be coming around to accepting that Tommy Maximoff, aka Tommy Shepart, is somehow his son.
It's an exciting development, especially as we head into the fourth episode on the heels of the apparent introduction of Jocasta. However, there's also a scene that sees Paladin firmly established as someone with a storied history in the MCU.
Not only do we learn that the Ten Rings syndicate provided him with the Adamantium vest that saved him from Vision's wrath, but he's also crossed paths with at least three major Marvel characters: The Punisher, Werewolf by Night, and Daredevil.
We may not get to see any of these clashes, but by seeding Paladin throughout the MCU in this way, Marvel Studios has helped give a newly introduced character some history. That could open the door to him continuing beyond this franchise.
There's also an unexpected twist with Paladin when it's established that he's not a true "Paladin"; he was simply raised by a member of that order. That feels like an important plot point which could be important later on, especially now that his contract has been terminated.
There's also an intriguing AI development when we learn that F.R.I.D.A.Y.'s appearance and personality are based on Allison Hogan, who is presumably Happy Hogan's mother. E.D.I.T.H., meanwhile, is taking her cues from an explorer named Edith Marks. Who is Vision's human avatar based on? A recent TV spot may have spoiled that particular plot point.
In our full season review, we concluded, "Paul Bettany and James Spader are masterful in VisionQuest, a staggering achievement by Marvel Studios and Terry Matalas that understands its characters, does right by them, and delivers one of the best MCU stories ever told."
In VisionQuest, Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponise him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron.
His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepard, a mysterious boy who may be Vision's son, reincarnated. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.
