Temuera Morrison recently shared his disappointment over the fact Lucasfilm didn't bring him back for The Mandalorian season 3 and seemed a tad disgruntled about Din Djarin's prominent role in The Book of Boba Fett.
Despite those remarks, it appears the actor has returned to a Galaxy Far, Far Away to shoot a supporting role in this August's Ahsoka.
According to One Take News (via SFFGazette.com), Morrison will play Captain Rex in the Disney+ series. It's unclear whether the soldier will appear in flashbacks or during the present day, but fans have long hoped to see Rex in live-action.
While the actor portrayed Clone Troopers both in the prequel trilogy and in The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi, this role will ask a lot more of him. Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker in The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, Rex has his own storied history and is one of Ahsoka Tano's closest friends and allies.
We're definitely intrigued to see what spin Morrison puts on the character, anyway, and hope he'll receive a strong supporting role in Ahsoka.
Also known as CT-7567, Captain Rex was Anakin Skywalker's first-in-command and a friend to many of the Jedi. Rex's inhibitor chip was removed, meaning he was able to escape the Order 66 programming which brainwashed so many of his brothers.
In Rebels, the older Rex reunited with Ahsoka and joined the Ghost crew on several missions. Many fans have long speculated that the bearded soldier we saw among the Rebels on Endor was the former Clone Trooper, though that's never been confirmed. A throwaway line in this Dave Filoni series could confirm it, though it's likely to remain a theory unless someone at Lucasfilm really likes the idea.
Time will tell whether this rumour pans out, though with the potential addition of Rex, the entire Ghost crew has now been assembled!
Ahsoka is currently expected to premiere on Disney+ on August 31.
