It's been revealed (via SFFGazette.com) that iconic Star Wars character, Ahsoka Tano, will headline her very own comic book series this summer. Unfortunately, while it won't tell new stories revolving around the character, we can expect to see it adapt the events of Disney+'s Ahsoka TV series.
Similar to hit adaptations of The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars: Ahsoka will be written by Rodney Barnes with art by Steven Cummings and Georges Jeanty, the team who previously adapted the first two seasons of The Mandalorian for Marvel Comics. Cummings and Jeanty will alternate on art duties, with Cummings launching the series with issue #1.
A fan-favourite character since her debut in the beloved The Clone Wars animated series, Ahsoka Tano is now at the forefront of pop culture thanks to recent appearances in The Mandalorian and her self-titled series. Now, she hits comic stands in her first-ever solo comic book run.
Star Wars: Ahsoka will deliver all the action and drama from the show as it follows Ahsoka’s galaxy-spanning quest to bring Grand Admiral Thrawn to justice. The saga also featured the villainous Morgan Elsbeth, introduced mysterious Force-users Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati and marked the live-action debuts of various characters from the Star Wars Rebels animated series including Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and Ezra Bridger. Relive all these thrilling moments and more in a brand-new way!
"It is truly an honour to be adapting Ahsoka," Barnes said in a press release. "The character is the essence of classic Star Wars: layered, complex and fun! I hope the fans enjoy this adaptation as much as the series it’s adapted from."
Editor Mark Paniccia, meanwhile, added, "We’re big fans here at Marvel, and we’ve been wanting to do something with Ahsoka for a long time. By the Force our dream finally came true!"
While it's rare for these comic book adaptations to feature any unseen moments, we're definitely intrigued to see what sort of spin it puts on the story Dave Filoni told on streaming last year. That includes the returns of characters like Anakin Skywalker, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Ezra Bridger.
Looking to the future, Ahsoka season 2 has already been confirmed by Lucasfilm and is expected to premiere before Filoni's planned Star Wars movie.
