Star Wars Rebels fan-favorite Sabine Wren has been rumored to make the jump to live-action for the Ahsoka Disney+ series for a while, and we recently got confirmation that Lucasfilm is searching for an actress to play the Mandalorian warrior.
We also got word of a rumored shortlist of actors of Asian/Southeast Asian heritage: Lana Condor (X-Men: Apocalypse, To All The Boys), Tati Gabrielle (The 100, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and model Havana Rose Liu, who has appeared in the likes of Mayday and Girls Will Be.
Now, we may have a better idea of which one is closest to landing the part.
Knight Edge Media (who have had a few scoops pan out in the past) is reporting that Gabrielle has now emerged as the frontrunner. This would make sense, since Liu is said to have dropped out of the running, and Condor looks set to be very busy with upcoming projects Boo, Bitch for Netflix and Hulu's Take Out.
Of course, there might well be other contenders for the gig we haven't been made aware of, so even if Gabrielle is the frontrunner, there's no guarantee she'll ultimately win the role.
In the closing moments of the Rebels series finale, Ahsoka and Sabine embarked on a mission to find Ezra Bridger after the young Jedi was seemingly sucked into a wormhole during his battle with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Though these events weren't mentioned specifically in Tano's episode of The Mandalorian, there were a few hints that she might be searching for answers during her confrontation with Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth.
Both Ezra and Thrawn have also been rumored to make their live-action debuts in Ahsoka, but that's yet to be made official.
