Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Trailer Introduces Doctor Strange Star Mads Mikkelsen As The Lead Villain

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, John Price is on the run, conflict has erupted on the Korean Peninsula, and a catastrophic weapon of war is on the verge of falling into the wrong hands.

As we first reported on GameFragger.com, the "Campaign" trailer just dropped during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026, revealing that Doctor Strange and Death Stranding star Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as the game's main villain. In terms of action, this final chapter in the Modern Warfare saga looks suitably edge-of-your-seat.

Based on previous instalments, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's campaign will likely be relatively short, with the franchise's biggest draw usually its online component.

Still, Infinity Ward typically pulls out all the stops and makes even a 6-hour story mode a compelling experience with plenty of major set-pieces.

"Price is on the run, conflict has erupted on the Korean Peninsula, and a catastrophic weapon of war is on the verge of falling into the wrong hands," reads the game's synopsis. "Following the assassination of General Shepherd in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Task Force 141 has been disbanded when its leader, John Price, goes on the run."

"There’s a growing conflict between the remnants of 141, as Ghost questions Price's unlawful methods. Was Price right to take the law into his own hands, or has he betrayed everything he once stood for? Regardless, there’s a target on his back as Ghost and Gaz are tasked to capture or kill their former captain."

It continues, "In parallel with the Korean invasion and the ongoing manhunt for Price lies an even greater threat. An unknown weapon of war is being delivered to a dangerous enemy known only as The Archer. What’s the weapon capable of, and what are the Archer’s motives in acquiring it?"

So, Mikkelsen is playing The Archer, a villain who is currently shrouded in secrecy. The actor is no stranger to breaking bad on screen, having done so in everything from Hannibal to the Fantastic Beasts franchise and Casino Royale.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on XBOX Series X|S, XBOX on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, with Campaign Early Access going live on October 16 for those who pre-order the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition.

@HumanRubiksCube - He’d play “regal, narcissistic, genius, obsessive monarch” in his sleep and was made for the role. Too bad.

Price going rogue, this should be great. These campaigns are better than films because they're interactive, MW3 campaign was fantastic.

@captainwalker - I feel like since Black Ops Cold War, the Call of Duty campaign do indeed feel like playable action movies with big set pieces.

That said, I'm not going out of my way to play. I'll wait for the Game Pass release.

@bkmeijer1 - Black ops is good but, infinity ward seems to have a better recipe IMO. I personally will not participate in micro transactions and I'll buy the cheapest iteration of the game I can. Great fun and far more satisfying than a sportsball game on the tube anyday.

@captainwalker - didn't Sledgehammer make MW3 though? That said, I haven't played all of them so I'll believe you IW has figured it out

@bkmeijer1 - You may be correct, sometimes they collaborate.

6 HOURS?????? Hard pass. Like you said, I know that the main draw of COD is online content...But 6 hours? Come on. On top of that, online for COD has turned in to nothing more than microtransactions for skins, new maps, weapons etc....So what's the freaking point?

@RebelCommander - I hate microtransactions, the game is always great until the cheating ruins it.

Halo >>> Call of Duty

Before Halo there was GoldenEye which set the standard for FPSs. Then came along Halo which rewrote the book of what a FPS should be.

This looks as generic as every single version that has came before it.
