The popular video game, Mega Man, is coming to the silver screen, and it seems to have found the visionaries to lead it. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Catfish co-directors, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, are in talks to direct the film.

Joost and Schulman will also write the film that will be produced by Chernin Entertainment and Masi Oka. The movie will be distributed by Twentieth Century Fox, who has worked for the past couple of years to acquired the rights, and closed the deal earlier this year.

Mega Man was first released in 1987 and has spawned multiple sequels, comic books and cartoons. The story follows the robotic lab assistant of Dr. Light, nicknamed Rock, who volunteers himself to be converted into a fighting robot after Dr. Wiley reprograms all of Dr. Light's other robot for evil.

As of right now, there is no release date for the movie.

I loved these games as a kid. But idk how I feel about a Mega Man movie... Seems like it will be very hard to adapt correctly.

@DonovanW - as a animated adaption I think this could be really solid. Same with Mario and Zelda if those are ever adapted, computer generated animation. And get the guy who did kubo and the two strings for Zelda, that movie was a gem.

I'm in. I loved the games when i was a kid. It's a great concept that can definitely work on the big screen. And someone eventually is going to figure out how to turn video games into great movies.

If this is live action I'll pass, but an animated movie can be a huge hit.

I think a Mega Man animated TV show on Netflix or anywhere would be more interesting. There are some very interesting videos in Spanish that I've seen that detail his origin all the until the X series.

Good luck to the people involved in this though if it succeeds.

I think some of you guys are nuts. I'm not saying a live action is going to be a guaranteed huge success but an animated one is dead on arrival like the Ratchet and Clank movie. There's just a certain segment of the population who going to see a cartoon movie (there's a reason why a good movie like Lego Batman made half of a bad movie like BvS) and they correlate really well to the type of people who actually played and remember the Mega Man movies fondly. Angry Birds succeeded but it was a recent game kids played on their tablets that they made into a kids animated movie. I don't see why a movie about humanoid robots with fantastic powers can't succeed in live-action if they do a good job. And correct me if i'm wrong but didn't they already have a Mega Man cartoon show.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if the producers took it seriously, put barely any jokes and went for an animated movie instead. Not going to happen, just sayin' how I would dig it.

even as a big mega man fan, i can't see this going well. this series was a big part of my younger days a long with mario and sonic. i'd say an animated movie is the only way to go.
