Reported in November that Columbia had hired writers Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer to write a new video game adaptation and now it seems a director for the project may have been found. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that director David O. Russell could be in line to direct Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

The site revealed that negotiations between Columbia and Russell have not yet begun and they are only in the "meeting stage" at this point. It was also said that several other unnamed directors are on the studio's list at this point.

It was also reported that the studio positively received the latest draft of the script by Donnelly and Oppenheimer and are looking to charge ahead with the project. The site believed that Sony-based Columbia was possibly trying to fast-track the film to fill one of their summer 2011 holes, but now that the studio moved the Kevin James comedy The Zookeeper into the July 8, 2011 slot, a summer 2011 release for Uncharted: Drake's Fortune doesn't seem to be in the cards for the film.

Little else was known about the film project at this point.
