Are video game movies about to start being good? That's the hope with Assassin's Creed, the upcoming adaptation of Ubisoft's hit series from Macbeth director Justin Kurzel. Michael Fassbender is starring in and producing the movie, and talking to Entertainment Weekly, the X-Men: Apocalypse star had this to say about his experience with the games. "I’ve played it since [being offered the job] mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character. We’re striving to find something special. We believe the whole concept around it is special and want to service that the best we can. The fans are really passionate: very specific and they expect accuracy and historical detail. We’re really trying to capitalize and feed on and enjoy the fun element. We’re working hard to make this something special." As for the physicallity which comes with a role like this, he added: "A lot of the stuff in the game is Parkour. Blades attached to his wrists. It’s about getting in close to the target, close quarters fighting." Sounds pretty great, don't you think?

I just don't think Fassbander fits this role. I wish it was someone younger and more relatable.

They both remind me of mages from a Warcraft game. This does looks pretty cool, though.

At least he can be recast for a sequel, since it makes sense for the story. Also, is he picking his finger nails in the photo?

Fassbender is too good an actor to want to be a part of a film failure. Ever since he's risen to super stardom, I can't think of a bad film he's been a apart of. Jonah Hex was the last truly "bad" film he was on and that was before he became A List. The Counselor was bad too but...this is a film he has a lot of stake in. He's gonna make sure it's not bad. He wants to do something special.

Tomb Raider reboot and Last of Us lend themselves to a film adaptation. The Witcher too

I don't think it's a "curse" as much as it is the producers and studios making bad decisions and trying to tap into the game's following to sell tickets and merch without investing enough into the production to fully flesh out the characters and properly tell the story.

That's why there have been 11 Resident Evil movies that have done relatively well (but sucked) and only 2 Silent Hill movies (the first of which was amazing, but the second just OK).

The producers of the Resident Evil movies were at least willing to spring for some good effects even though the stories were basically all the same after the first one, which was the only good one of the series.

With Silent Hill, the story kinda fell apart after the second act, so it didn't do as well, despite pretty good effects and (mostly)strong performances by the main characters.

Fassbender sounds like he's done his research. Wonder if the character he's playing gets his own ship and crew...unlash the harpoons!

To be honest, I am excited for this more than any CBMS next year. Hopefully this game breaks the video game movies curse, because it has a lots of potential, and a huge fanbase to do so. Add in to the fact that this movie will be connected to.the games, its just an added bonus and potential Ezio Auditore cameo. This and WarCraft hopefully deliver.

Witcher, Elder Scrolls and Fallout live action is what I dream of. Fallout had a great 'Nuka Break' series. Heard that Witcher did have a polish TV series that was cancelled. A TV series as a potential add-on like AC movie is doing will do the ES and Fallout universe a justice

The parkour didn't work out great for Prince of Persia.
They should focus most on the secret society conspiracy stuff. That's what made the game unique for me.

He kinda looks like Viggo under that hood...

I've gotta do an article on this series at some point. That'll be my 2016 resolution, pitch the next Assassin's Creed game.

I would do a direct sequel to Black Flag that follows an older Edward Kenway on the second wind of his pirating career, this time he's called out to the South China Sea to reclaim a Piece of Eden from the British Empire. Singapore would be pirate central in the game, it's a fishing village that expanded into an entire city built out of wooden peers, lanterns, swamps, the best looking city in the game. Manilla, Brunei, and Hong Kong are also explorable cities. Working title:

Assassin's Creed V: Far East Fleet
