Insomniac Games has not announced nor confirmed a Venom game, however a new update from an insider has Venom fans getting their hopes back up again. NateTheHate2 posted on September 4 that the Venom game is "very much still in development upon last check.".
The Venom game first showed up a few years ago in the 2023 Insomniac breach as a spin-off on an internal roadmap. Marvel’s Wolverine is one of the games from that breach that actually has a box date and is coming out soon. Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 is the other name that keeps getting listed next to Venom in rumor posts. They did not date Venom or give details about it. Other insider accounts earlier this summer floated 2027, including a September 2027 guess. All of that is still rumors and we cannot be sure until something is officially confirmed.
Cancellation talk for the Venom game started after Tony Todd died in 2024. Todd voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and said at Fan Expo that Insomniac used about 10 percent of what he recorded. Nadji Jeter, who voices Miles Morales, later suggested the standalone game was dead. Jason Schreier of Bloomberg answered that claim on ResetEra with a short denial: it was not true. We will have to see which one is right in the future.
In Insomniac’s Spider-Man story, Venom isn't quite the same as they are in the comics. The symbiote is not with Eddie Brock, Harry Osborn gets it as a supposed cure and becomes Venom in Spider-Man 2. Some later rumor write-ups said a solo game would shift toward a more comic-looking Eddie and build his vendetta against Spider-Man. It would be interesting to see how they spin it.
Right now Insomniac's main concern that they are working on is Wolverine. Marketing is pointed at Logan for the next week and a half if not more. A Venom announcement in that window would be a surprise. After Wolverine, the calendar rumor mill looks to line up for Spider-Man 3 and a Ratchet project announcement. However due to how long the Venom game has been sitting in that unnanounced pile is why people keep asking the same question of wether its alive or in the works.
Once again all of this is rumors, and should be taken with a grain of salt. So before you get your hopes up, remember that. Personally I think Spider-Man 3 is far more likely than a Venom game for them to be making and releasing next.
