We weren't even sure cameras were rolling on this one yet, but it's been announced that filming has now wrapped on Sony Pictures and Constantin Films' upcoming Resident Evil reboot, which has Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) on board as writer and director.
The first production still has also been released, and while it's not particularly revealing, fans of the survival horror video game series will no doubt recognize the familiar sight of a signal-less TV and what appears to be a health-restoring green herb just off to the left.
Roberts has previously said that he wanted to "go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences."
Resident Evil stars Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin, and Donal Logue (Silent Night, Gotham) as Chief Irons.
As far as we know, the reboot is still set to release theatrically at some point in 2021.
