Samara Weaving has firmly established herself as a legit Scream Queen with her roles in the Ready or Not franchise and Scream VI. However, it seems the Australian actress is now looking to establish herself in the blockbuster realm.
After recently being cast as the White Queen, Emma Frost, in Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot, it's now being reported (via SFFGazette.com) that she's also set to star in Nintendo and Sony Pictures' The Legend of Zelda movie. This comes after a recent slew of casting additions, including Lydia Peckham, who will reunite with filmmaker Wes Ball after starring in 2024's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
There's currently no word on who Weaving is playing in the live-action adaptation of the beloved video game franchise, but filming wrapped back in April, so Marvel fans needn't worry that this will impact her MCU role.
Weaving has become one of Hollywood's most highly sought-after genre stars after first finding fame on the long-running soap Home and Away. Following standout performances in The Babysitter, Mayhem, and the Oscar-winning Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, she broke out as horror icon Grace in Ready or Not.
Since then, Weaving has showcased her range in projects including Bill & Ted Face the Music, Babylon, Scream VI, Azrael, and Over Your Dead Body.
The Legend of Zelda follows Link, a young warrior destined to protect the magical kingdom of Hyrule from the forces of darkness. The land is under threat from Ganon, a ruthless warlord who seeks the Triforce—an ancient relic said to grant limitless power.
To stop him, Link must embark on a perilous journey, battling monstrous creatures, exploring treacherous dungeons, and solving intricate puzzles to uncover sacred artefacts that can aid him in his quest.
The Legend of Zelda cast is led by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. Joining them are Uli Latukefu as Ganondorf, Dichen Lachman as Impa, the bodyguard and advisor to Princess Zelda, and Yvonne Strahovski and the late Sam Neill in mystery roles.
"Look, I pay attention to it all. I hear it all," Ball said in 2024 about his approach to the property. "Fortunately, my training was on Maze Runner, which was a small but really passionate fan base. And now here I am in an Apes movie with an equally passionate fan base and a much bigger one. So I've been playing in this expectations game for a while. I understand it."
"I hear the fans, and I want them to be happy. I am a fan myself," the filmmaker continued. "At some point though, I have to trust my instincts and I have to make choices, and I'll do that – but coming from a place of real respect for and love for that property, which I've grown up with my entire life. It is so close to me and on so many levels."
As noted, The Legend of Zelda is directed by Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes filmmaker Wes Ball and is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 7, 2027.
