We weren't even sure cameras were rolling on this one yet, but it's been announced that filming has now wrapped on Sony Pictures and Constantin Films' upcoming Resident Evil reboot, which has Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) on board as writer and director.

The first production still has also been released, and while it's not particularly revealing, fans of the survival horror video game series will no doubt recognize the familiar sight of a signal-less TV and what appears to be a health-restoring green herb just off to the left.

Roberts has previously said that he wanted to "go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences."

Resident Evil stars Kaya Scodelario (Crawl) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin, and Donal Logue (Silent Night, Gotham) as Chief Irons.

As far as we know, the reboot is still set to release theatrically at some point in 2021.

@dracula - Hopefully it’s an actual movie this time. I still like those goofy first ones but I know it’s about as guilty a pleasure as they come

@SanFranLand - I thought the first 3 were decent enough, they are for sure products of their time, the whole post matrix stuff, for sure guilty pleasure (although I havent felt any need to watch them in years). After that, they were basically big budget scifi channel movies. Even some of the visuals. Terrible

On another topic

Michael B Jordan is directing Creed 3

For people hoping Killmonger would be the new black panther (for reason i will never understand) yeah think he is gonna be busy with Creed. Stallone is stepping away and going back to Rocky but Creed to gonna keep going

Hopefully the movie does actual justice to the games.

The timeline in which I can imagine these being good is so narrow and limited, I hope causality comes together to form something equally as improbable but more worthwhile instead - like world peace.

A good violent R rated RE flick really shouldn't be that hard to pull off. I hope they actually have a SCRIPT this time.

Off topic: Any speculation? https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-studios-mystery-film-releasing-between-black-panther-2-an/

@Feralwookiee - Guessing it's Ant-Man 3, right?

Considering that this is what one of their zombies looks like and its meant to emulate the first zombie you see in the Original game, I am quite excited for it.
The set photos showed what is going to be the Arklay Mansion, so I have more faith in this than I ever did in the Anderson series.

Of course pictures alone don’t do it justice, but I am feeling better about it so far...hopefully we get an even better outlook when the trailer comes out

The cast just makes this movie feel so... eh. Robbie Amell isn't a good actor and has this boyish thing he can't seem to grow out of/into an older Chris down the line, Avan Jogia is the same and looks awful in-costume as expected, Neal Mcdonough will sign up for literally anything, Kaya is alright but is the same and stands out too much in that regard...

Also, the whole "Tom Hopper and Robbie Amell should swap characters" thing from fans is weird. You'll get an RE5-roided Chris with Tom, but wtf kind of Wesker would we even get with Robbie lmao.

I don't want to wait another 10 years for a real reboot man.

@Kurne -

Are you following the news about the fan film, “The Keeper” from the guy who did the proof of concept for the Arklay tv series?

OT: WW84 opening boosts theater stocks, well except for AMC. LOL!

I really don't know what AMC is going to do.

@Battabing - go bankrupt, I guess. It's not like they haven't tried to burn every bridge they could.
