There used to be a standing theory that when a comic book movie was made, it had to be geared towards the younger crowd in order for it to have a chance at being successful. Well that theory was blown out of the water with the 2016 release of Deadpool, which was both a huge commercial success, and a delightfully vulgar and violent hard-R superhero film. Also cashing in on that success was Logan, Wolverine’s swan song. That movie was also both a very hard-R, and very successful in the box office.

Looking to join in on the ruckus is a UK comic book adaptation from the creator of Judge Dredd, Accident Man. Check out the trailer below.

Accident Man is based off a 1991 UK-based comic series called Toxic, and was written by Pat Mills and Tony Skinner. The film stars Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange, The Expendables 2), who plays titular Accident Man Mike Fallon, a brash hitman who specializes in making his victims’ deaths look like accidents. However, Fallon becomes humbled by tragedy after his girlfriend Beth is killed, and he subsequently goes on a quest for vengeance.

Here is the official synopsis:

A deadly hitman becomes an accidental hero in the pulse-pounding action-thriller ACCIDENT MAN, available on DVD and Digital February 6 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Based on the underground British comic Toxic! by Pat Mills (creator of the “Judge Dredd” comic) and Tony Skinner, this darkly humorous and stylishly violent adaptation stars Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange, The Expendables 2) as Accident Man, a stone-cold killer who must face off against a rogue’s gallery of ruthless assassins in order to uncover the truth about his ex-girlfriend’s murder. Co-starring Ashley Greene (Twilight series), Oscar® nominee David Paymer (Best Supporting Actor, Mr. Saturday Night, 1992), and action fan favorites Ray Park (Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace), Ray Stevenson (Thor series) and Michael Jai White (The Dark Knight), ACCIDENT MAN hits its target with a lethally entertaining combination of explosive fight scenes and hilarious moments.

Directed by Jesse Johnson, the film features a cast that includes Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite, The Dark Knight, Spawn), Ashley Greene (Twilight, Rogue), David Paymer (The Good Wife, Perception, Drag Me to Hell), Ray Park (the G.I. Joe films, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, X-Men), and Ray Stevenson (the Thor films, Black Sails, Dexter).

Accident Man will be released by Sony Pictures straight to DVD and Digital February 6th 2018.

My standing theory has nothing to do with whether or not it can be successful because there are enough sleazes out there that think R rated content is cool obviously. My theory is that is unnecessary and all of the superhero movies I have seen with R rated content added nothing to the story that made it worthwhile watching. I have said more than enough.

Two things:

1) Toxic! was the comic. Accident Man was a strip in the comic.

2) Please don't make Marshall Law straight to DVD. I know someone out there is thinking about it...
