Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who made a splash in Aquaman before going on to give an Emmy Award-winning performance as Dr. Manhattan in HBO's Watchmen miniseries, is set to team with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for a new Warner Bros. action movie called Emergency Contact.
Abdul-Mateen will play the lead role and exec produce, while Johnson will produce via his Seven Bucks company along with Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia and Beau Flynn's FlynnPictureCo. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like the Black Adam star will actually appear in the movie alongside Abdul-Mateen, but maybe he'll see sense and give fans the big-screen team-up they really want!
Specific plot details are being kept under wraps, but the project is described as being a "high-concept, high-octane action film set in the underground music scene of Austin, Texas." The studio picked up the pitch from writers Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (The Mauritanian).
Abdul-Mateen recently gave a critically-acclaimed turn as Bobby Seale in The Trial of the Chicago Seven, and has several high-profile projects on the way, including The Matrix 4, the Candyman reboot, and George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road follow-up, Furiosa. He will also reprise the role of the villainous Black Manta for Aquaman 2.
It's a shame we don't know a little more about Emergency Contact, but additional details will no doubt come to light fairly soon.
