In the 15 years since
Bad Boys II, there have been multiple efforts to make another instalment in the buddy cop action franchise. Unfortunately these attempts have quietly fizzled out. Michael Bay, the director of the first 2 movies, was initially keen on helming the sequel but left the project at some point in the development cycle. Joe Carnahan was eventually hired to write and direct 2 Bad Boys sequels for Sony but also abandoned the project.
According to
Deadline, Sony is keen on having Belgian filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah direct the project. The little-known duo are best known as the directors of a 2015 Belgian drama film called
Black.
The most recent draft of the script was penned by Chris Bremner.
Franchise stars Martin Lawrence and Will Smith will reprise their roles as detectives Marcus Barnett and Mike Lowrey. Jerry Bruckheimer is also back as producer.
