You can't keep a good action franchise down... or a bad one, evidently.
THR reports that Lionsgate is officially moving forward with a fourth Expendables movie, with several notable actors from the previous entries set to reprise their roles. Joining returning mercs played by Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture will be Curtis “50” Jackson, Megan Fox and Tony Jaa.
While Stallone took point in the first three movies, Statham is said to be the the primary focus here, with Fox on board as the female lead. No other details on the new characters were provided.
Stuntman-turned-director Scott Waugh (Need for Speed) will helm the project from a script by Spenser Cohen, Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly.
“It’s so much fun to bring these stars together for a no-holds-barred action film,” said Jason Constantine, president of acquisitions and co-productions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “The new film will raise the stakes and be the biggest, most badass adventure yet.” “Popcorn entertainment is guaranteed,” added Millennium president, Jeffrey Greenstein.
The Expendables movies were never what you'd call critical darlings, but they certainly have their share of fans, and old-school action aficionados should be very happy to hear that the likes of Stallone and Statham will be back for another bout of gunplay.
Production is scheduled to commence in October.
