FATE OF THE FURIOUS Director F. Gary Gray To Launch A Big Screen M.A.S.K. Franchise For Hasbro
It's been revealed today that the director of the upcoming Men in Black reboot F. Gary Gray is now looking to bring Hasbro's M.A.S.K. to the big screen. Hit the jump for everything we know so far...
With the Transformers Universe off to a rocky start, Paramount Pictures is now looking at other Hasbro franchises to bring to the big screen. According to Deadline, the latest is M.A.S.K., a movie based on the 1980s action figures and animated series. The Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray has been tasked with adapting the project presumably once he's finished working on the Men in Black reboot.
As the trade notes, "M.A.S.K. is an acronym for Mobile Armored Strike Kommand, a task force led by Matt Trakker whose goal is to take out the criminal organization VENOM." Apparently, Gray, Paramount, and Hasbro are now looking for a writer who will deliver a "contemporary subculture movie with a youth empowerment angle." Well, that all sounds rather topical, don't you think?
What led to Gray deciding to take on the project? Apparently, he's interested in taking a vintage property and revamping it for a contemporary audience. With that in mind, we should probably expect to see a young, diverse cast and that's no bad thing in today's Hollywood landscape. What do you guys think of this news?
