IRON MAN 3 Writer Drew Pearce On The Pressures Of Penning MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5

Brad Bird's Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was loved by fans and critics alike, so both director Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) and writer Drew Pearce (Godzilla) have a lot to live up to. In the following interview, the latter discusses that sort of pressure. Check it out!

"Well, the challenge is pretty clear, which is that you have to be better than the four which came before you and they've already used a bunch of ideas that are probably really good for a Mission Impossible movie. I think that's also kind of exciting because you learn from those four. Definitely, as far as I'm concerned and Chris McQuarrie who's directing it and Tom who's very involved as is J.J. (there's a big brain trust on this), and I think elements of the first Mission, we loved the actual gang in first Mission. If you look back now, it's an incredible array of actors and the way it refreshed was really good, and I think Ghost Protocol just nailed tone. Brad's a kind of genius of action, and I think the Bhurja sequence is a modern classic."

Speaking of Brad Bird, he needs to direct a Flash movie and get involved in the DCCU.

@sanjuro I was hypothetically speaking. If there was a DCCU or if there ever will be, Bird needs to get involved. [frick] Goyer.

Stuff like this fits Brad Bird like a glove.

Flash and his colorful mythos is in line with pretty much most of Bird's work.
Brad Bird is great at utilizing more characters and having fun but still being able to tell a good story.

Too bad he is going to tv suck such great characters at dc and all Warner bros wants to do is more Harry potter Fail.

Bird has shown with the Incredibles, Simpsons, Iron Giant and the rest of his impressive resume that he can balance humor and story telling efficiently.

Just imagine something like this in live action:

@sanjuro IKR. WB needs to get their head out of their ass and utilize their other properties.

I'm wondering how the Flash show will work with this new Man of Steel movieverse when it's already in the Arrowverse, which is very clearly has that CW feel.
SnapperCarr
SnapperCarr - 9/17/2013, 4:17 AM
@staypuffed I think Arrow should stay away from the DCCU and just build its own TV-verse.

Imagine the above Dash scene combined with some of this:

You can easily bring Flash to the big screen.

Looking forward to MI5, hope they'll use IMAX camera's once more!

About the Dash, I really liked how they did his superpower in The Incredibles, and the speed of Faora in MOS was really great too, can't wait to see The Flash in live action!

Yuck, yuck, yuck! I love the MI franchise (well, except #2 as it was terrible), but I just can't imagine IM3 writer pulling this off when IM3 itself was such a lame-o story. I mean, is the "enemy" of the film actually going to be a front-man named Jordon Sisson who works for the real enemy who, while claiming to be what the front-man claims, is actually nothing like what everyone thought the enemy was going to be? Yuck, yuck, yuck!

@decimus83 hay shut the frick up. Please another talentless wanker who thinks because they can snarky then they're really smart... Please, so you didn't like IM3, you're allowed to have opinion but why denigrate those involved? What gives you the right, I mean what do you do?
Shane Black wrote and created Lethal Weapon, the last Boy Scout, directed Kiss kiss bang, bang. Drew Pearce is a fine writer, who got these gigs because he can write damn good screenplays. Unlike some tool with an opinion he works for living doing something he loves. Writing a screenplay isn't easy (i know it's taken 4 years to sell mine)but it is easy to a dick with an opinion and access to the Internet. Just because of your heard mentality you didn't his last movie you don't have to be a twat!

decimus83 - 9/17/2013, 9:26 AM
Talent-less? At least my sentences make sense. What does this even mean, "Just because of your heard mentality you didn't his last movie . . . ?"

Any-who, what I said was my opinion, so I am entitled to share it just as much as you feel entitled to spurt off your little rant. And, just so all are clear, since it was those directly involved who put out the final product that is/was IM3, who else am I supposed to "denigrate"? IM3 was terrible, but it wasn't anyone's fault?! I blame the writer and directer first! This should be self-evident.

So instead of me being the [enter your choice word here], I suspect you were actually evaluating yourself, especially since your diatribe was far worse than anything I had said.

Skadoosh!

Yeah i'd want Brad Bird to do a Flash film. It would be way better than a tv show based on The Flash. It's WB's fault anyway.

On Mission Impossible 5, bring it.

@Acecalban? Maybe if you knew the difference between "herd" and "heard", that screenplay of yours may have a chance. A writer who can't spell or even use the correct words in a sentence has no business calling himself one.
