James Bond 26: 007 Finalists Revealed (And Which Rumoured Contenders Won't Be Testing)

The search for the next 007 is nearing its end, with up to five British actors said to be in contention. Find out who's testing for James Bond 26, and which rumoured contenders are out of the running.

It seems James Bond 26 hasn't found the new 007 quite yet, as the trades (via ActioNewz.com) have weighed in and set the record straight on what's happening.

We'll start with Deadline, which just broke the news that final auditions are underway, with screen tests beginning this Friday and continuing through next week with the finalists. At least four test offers have gone out, with three of them named as Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), Callum Turner (One Night Only), and Josh O'Connor (Challengers).

Tests were originally planned for earlier this month, but scheduling conflicts led to the change (it sounds like producers want them to take place around the same time).

The Hollywood Reporter has also weighed in, revealing that up to five actors could be in the mix to play Bond. While Jack O'Connell (Sinners) was rumoured to be in the mix, that's not the case. As for Frankenstein star Jacob Elordi, he's also not testing, despite recent reports to the contrary.

The trade explains, "It is also unclear how involved these tests are, but they are understood to be comprehensive. Sources say there will be three components — stunts, camera presence and dialogue."

Amazon declined to comment, and instead pointed to its previous statement: "The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right."

Nina Gold (Game of Thrones) has been tapped as casting director, with Denis Villeneuve (Dune) set to direct the movie from a script by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). David Heyman and Amy Pascal are the franchise's new producers, taking over from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson after they stepped aside.

Bond is one of the most coveted roles in Hollywood, but it's a job that comes with a lot of expectations, especially as the actor will have to follow in the footsteps of iconic takes from actors like Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan, and Sean Connery.

For 007 purists, the fact that only British actors are being eyed for the role will come as a relief. This should go some way in putting aside fears that Amazon will "Americanise" the franchise.

Keep checking back here for updates on James Bond 26 as we have them.

Callum Turner. Love Jack Lowden but I think Callum Turner has more of the blunt instrument vibe to him

@RamboJohnJay415 - any real Bond fan knows Turner is perfect.

I think it will be him, with how obviously good his casting would be, I think the producers are basically using other actors to prove why it should be him at this rate.

Honestly, they should just do a straight-up adaptation of Moonraker and set it in the 50s. The movie is completely different from the book except there’s a rocket and the villain is named Hugo Drax.

@soberchimera - It's my favorite Fleming book. Great ending.

Regardless of who they choose. This has potential to be the best Bond film ever made honestly. We have Dennis directing and McKnight on the script (Peaky Blinders is phenomenal.) I'll trust who they pick, but this is the first time in decades, I've actually been really stoked for a new Bond movie.

So 4-5 test offers have been sent to actors , 3 of which are apparently Jack Lowden , Callum Turner & Josh O Connor?.

If that’s the case then that’s a pretty good lineup i feel with Jack Lowden being my first choice & then Callum Turner for the new James Bond out of the named 3 candidates.

I’m not fully sold on Josh O Connor since I don’t think he would be able to pull off a modern Bond but if it’s a period piece (which I doubt) , I could see it tbh.

Favorable to Turner, personally.

Love Elordi and I think he's got a long career ahead of him, but Bond just isn't a fit. Every actor alongside him would have to have platforms to make the scenes believable.

Well, since they (SPOILER) KILLED the last James Bond, I'm not watching any of the new ones until they run their course with whichever actor they choose. I can wait.

I wonder if there’s a chance that any of them refuse to screentest or decline the offer for various reasons since I think that has happened before?.

Also it’s interesting that the 3 named candidates are all the same age (36) which should show they are going for a somewhat experienced Bond like Craig was rather then a young recruit.

I meant not experienced as a 00 but he still has some military experience and was perhaps indeed a Commander atleast.
