JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Henry Cavill Confirms He Was Studio's Second Choice To Play James Bond In CASINO ROYALE

Fresh off the news that Henry Cavill is returning as the DCU's Superman, the actor has confirmed he came with an inch of landing the role of James Bond in 2006's Casino Royale. Read on for details...

Henry Cavill's Superman return was made official earlier this week, and it's clear now that future big screen adventures as the Man of Steel beckon. Between the DCU and Netflix's The Witcher, the actor looks set to have a busy few years ahead of him, but could he find room for James Bond in his increasingly busy schedule?

The Justice League star remains a firm fan-favourite to play 007, and this wouldn't be the first time he's been considered for the role. In fact, Cavill reveals he was only just beaten to the coveted gig by Daniel Craig in 2006's Casino Royale

"They told me I was close. They told me it was ultimately down to, and this is what I've been told, it was just down to me and Daniel (Craig), and I was the younger option," Cavill told Josh Horowitz (via ActioNewz.com) during a recent interview.  "They obviously went with Daniel and I think it was an amazing choice to go with."

"I probably wasn't ready at the time. I think Daniel did an incredible job over the past movies, so I'm happy they made that choice. It was a fun adventure at the time, and definitely gave a boost to my career," he continued. "That was the key element of it. I was getting a lot of auditions, which I went to, which went really, really well."

Cavill's career would have likely looked much different had he played Bond in the early 2000s, and it's unlikely Superman would have ever been an option for him. He did get the chance to portray a spy in The Man From Uncle, of course, but is the actor still holding out hope for 007?

"Whether I'm considered for the role or not, I don't know, but it would be fun to have the conversation for sure," Cavill admitted. "If I'm not, then I just want to see what they do with it next because I think [Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson are] amazing."

At 39, it's possible the DCU's Superman will be aged out of the role by the time MGM begin productions on the next chapter in Bond's story. He's definitely not someone we should discount at this stage, though.

Would you like to see Cavill play James Bond or should he stick to the Man of Tomorrow?

Interestingly, if they went with Cavill...This James Bond era that just ended wouldn't have. It would have kept going as Cavill seems to still have a lot of energy for a role like this.

I did think he wad a shoe in for the next phase of Bond, but I can't see him now doing Superman and Bond at the same time.

His schedule might be a bit busy now but I'd still be down for it.
