RUMOR: Damian Lewis Is The Frontrunner To Be The Next James Bond

"Are you a gambling man, Mr. Bond?" According to bookmakers in the UK, Damian Lewis (Homeland) is the odds-on favorite to be the next 007. Keep in mind, this is not word from MGM or Sony, but it is interesting that this actor is such a strong favorite (maybe someone has an inside source?). Check it out!

After Spectre, it is reported that Daniel Craig is contracted for one more James Bond film.  The actor has been playing the role for almost a decade, so him nearing the end of his run as 007 doesn't seem too unlikely. Word from the UK's biggest bookie, William Hill, is that Damian Lewis is next in line to be James Bond. Honestly, I'm not much of a gambler, but if I were to bet, I would put my money on Damian Lewis.

Interestingly enough, fan favorites, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, and Michael Fassbender are mentioned as well:

"Odds for Lewis are as short as 6/4, pushing him ahead of other favorites like Idris Elba (5/2), Tom Hardy (4/1), Henry Cavill (5/1), and Michael Fassbender (7/1)."

Do you think Damian Lewis is a good choice for James Bond? Or is there another you actor would rather see take on the role of the suave super spy? Let your voice be heard in the comments section below.

Elba will be probably next James Bond. I don't mind. Michael Fassbender would be probably also great. Cavill - maybe. It all depends what kind of tone the next movies will have. I could see Fassbender as the 60's or 70's type of Bond.

Damian Lewis is awesome. He kicked so much ass in the role of Dick Winters in Band of Brothers.

If you've never taken 10 hours to sit down and watch Band of Brothers, you can go [frick] yourself.

i don't think Lewis stand a chance with Elba or Fassbender or Hardy. Especially if Elba is producers favourite. But then i didn't see him in anything i suppose.

Wonder if Nolan will take over the franchise from Mendes ...

Craig is 47 right now so he could probably do one more Bond movie. I guess it would depend on 3 things

- Mendes would have to go back
- the script would probably need to be written by the Skyfall and Spectre author
- his fitness

I believed the big concern was that Dan was getting too old for the role and now they want a guy just 5 years younger? And hell these movies now come out two years after the last one, its no longer like the 90´s when you get a movie a year after.

My money is on Cavill and Fassbender. They´re the right age and are good actors but both might be on demand right now so maybe not. I LOVE Tom Hardy but he lacks the charisma and humor (This Means War anyone?). Idris would be fine

I'd be okay with this choice. But I thought they wanted a younger actor for the next Bond, I guess not.

@TheAmbassador

You should consider watching 'The Pacific' which is a companion piece to 'Band of Brothers' and is also brilliant in it's own right. And there's another HBO miniseries called 'Masters of the Air' that'll hopefully be going into production soon which I'm very excited about.

Damian Lewis was actually my choice for playing an older Matt Murdock.

I love Elba, but he's just a little old for me, unless they started filming next year (they won't). I want Fassbender or Cavill!

I'd be perfectly ok with a Black James Bond (not sure about Idris Elba though, because as brilliant as he was in Luther he has disappeared up his own arse with self importance since Mandela) - but I draw the line at gingers.

Smart decision would be Cavill. He has the most charm and suave way about him. Lewis? No. Besides, is it confirmed Spectre is Craig's last film?
JamesMann
JamesMann - 6/18/2015, 10:41 PM
Spectre is not Craig's last film people. It's well known and even states in this exact article he's still contracted for one more film.

Interesting, after a blond bond maybe we'll have a red bond,Lewis was outstanding in Homeland,im fine with this.

Also Tom Hardy is strong one but it's too rusty to be bond.

Fassbender awesome actor,my second choice after Lewis

Cavill,he have the look but sorry but he isn't enough charismatic to be bond

Elba, interesting choice, dunno if the wide audience will accept a black bond.

Fassbender or Elba or GTFO!!!

There will never be a black bond, race isn't something that changes over night. The producers have a long history of saying "when in doubt, turn to Fleming." Fleming made Bond white, so I'm sorry if people have a hard time accepting it.

The code name theory has been shot down several times, more recently in Casino Royale, and Skyfall.

Henry Cavill would likely be a perfect fit, but like what was already said, Craig has one more film on his contact and could be held to it. But the only way I could see 007 being black is either they killed Bond and made his replacement black or if it was the agent preceding Bond. Either way Bond's race will never change, the number'll stay the same though. But even then why not just make another 00 agent black and have him work along side Bond?
