SKYFALL And THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY May Open On The Same Day In China

Earlier this year, a big chunk was taken out of the box office totals of The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises when they were pitted against each other in China, and now the same may happen with Skyfall and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Read on for details.

Variety reports that Skyfall and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey look set to face off against each other in China later this year, just about guaranteeing that their respective box office totals WILL suffer. Despite denials from the China Film Group, reliable sources tell the site that they "would not be surprised to see "Skyfall" and "Hobbit" squaring off". Earlier this year, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises were released on the same day, as was The Expendables 2 and Prometheus. While they made $191.3 million at the Chinese box office, that's "roughly half of what they could have had they launched separately, according to knowledgeable observers". Which movie do you think will win?

The Dark Knight Rises and Spider-man hardly lost any huge box office just because they were released at the same time in China. Most people wanted to see TDKR and not many people in general gave a damn about a new Spider-man, hence its worldwide disappointing box office. Every other country in the world didn't decide to not go and see TAS based on its Chinese box office result. It was a mostly pointless experience next to TDKR which many had an invested interest in for a conclusion to their journey of the character.

Both Bond and The hobbit will do damn well because they are anticipated movies in their series. It does not matter if they are released at the same time, you're only asking people to find 4-5 hours in a 168 hour week to see two movies. It's hardly a choice of life and death!

the hobbit wins easily, it's been highly anticipated for years, coming off the greatest trilogy ever, things can only get better for the hobbit, and it's in 3D, china loves 3D, the hobbit will crush bond

@theyoungman

No, TDKR beat TASM by about $5 million.
