The publicity tour for Top Gun: Maverick is officially underway and earlier this week, stars Tom Cruise and Monica Barbaro appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, where they spoke at length about the upcoming film and also debuted a brand new clip.

Having seen the film, we can tell you this scene takes place fairly early in the feature, so there aren't any major spoilers present, but you do get a good sneak peek at Maverick (Cruise) back in action showing this new batch of TOPGUN pilots who's the king of the air.

The long-awaited Joe Kosinski-directed action sequel will see the 3x Academy Award-nominated megastar finally step back into his career-defining role as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, with original co-star Val Kilmer also back as Tom "Iceman" Kazansky.

The iconic duo are joined by a supporting cast consisting of Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, Miles Teller as Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw, Jon Hamm as Vice Admiral Cyclone, Glen Powell as Hangman, Lewis Pullman as Bob, Ed Harris as Rear Admiral, Monica Barbaro as Phoenix, Charles Parnell as Rear Admiral Warlock, Danny Ramirez as Fanboy, Manny Jacinto as Fritz, Bashir Salahuddin as Coleman, Jay Ellis as Payback, Jake Picking in an undisclosed role, Raymond Lee in an undisclosed role, Lyliana Wray as Amelia Benjamin, Jean Louisa Kelly as Carole Bradshaw, Greg Davis as Coyote, and Bob Stephenson in an undisclosed role.

The new clip starts at the 12:05 mark, so check it out below:

After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. When he finds himself training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Top Gun: Maverick jets into theaters on May 27!

Can't wait to see this. The extended clip that they showed in front of Doctor Strange was awesome.

@AmazingFILMporg - I posted this not too long ago on the most recent DS article, so copy pasting:

"I saw this film at the first possible showing this afternoon in IMAX. Honestly, I'm not sure yet how I totally feel about it. Overall, I really liked it and it was pretty good. But I'm still processing and I think I'll need to definitely see it again before I make up my mind about just how good this film was in my eyes, and where it falls on the MCU ranking list.

This film was pure chaos, just absolute mayhem. And man I knew it was going to be violent, but it was pretty violent- the most violent Disney MCU offering yet, and definitely a straight up horror film at times. I had avoided spoilers for the past month, so some of what I thought this film was going to be turned out quite differently. I knew Wanda would become villainous, but I did not quite expect her to be pulling things from the start and for the cloak to get pulled back on her being the main villain so early on, I did not expect her to be so corrupted. The Illuminati, well man their introductions were amazing. Did not expect them all to get murdered like that. And for a film about the multiverse, I wish we had actually spent more time exploring the multiverse.

Sam Raimi did a great job, and this was absolutely visually stunning and impressive. A very gripping film.

I'll have more to say about this later, just some initial thoughts. Better than the first DS? Yes. Better than No Way Home? No. Better than The Batman? Currently I don't think so. Just so much to process here."

I'm not sure why I'm so uncertain and still processing stuff for this film, but it left me with a lot to chew on and digest. right now I'm at about a 9/10 on my scale.

Ngl there are scenes that I love but I couldn’t help but feel let down by it. Didn’t love Elfman’s score. Loved seeing those characters pop up but I don’t think that worked for me either.

The dudes I saw it with really enjoyed it but I couldn’t help but feel just a bit let down.

@regularmovieguy - yeah, that's why I gave it a 9 because there was a part of me, for some reason (still thinking about it) that wanted more or things to play out differently, idk.

I think I've seen the first movie proper only once. And I'm still so excited to see this. Not just for the visuals and action, but the nostalgia of the story still hits with me.

@MosquitoFarmer - I definitely saw it once too, and maybe when I was a little kid that I don't remember, but I'm hyped for this as well. Pretty much for the same reasons.

Although Tom Cruise making the production use actual fighter jets might already be enough for me to get im the cinema seats

What am I some kind of clown to them? Laughing around, having a jolly? [frick]ing me with. Well Im [frick]ing back.

I want you all to know something and to give you a gift. The moderators (You know who I am talking about) have stated to you, that the report sections are moderated and used propely EVERYDAY. The report section is "Monitered daily by employees". This is a [frick]ing lie. It is not true, for I have also monitered the reports sections, through my own means. And I can assure for a few months barely any [frick]ing comments have been deleted, by the wonderous employees of this site.

I want you all to know, that your posts are being thrown in the toilet.

Now I had the report section, and I can literlly give it to you, but unfortunatly the reports are mysteriously filtered out as soon as I pointed this out to a moderator they aren't doing their [frick]ing job. But suffice I assure you that, apart from the taliban supporters on this site.

One of you, knows that I can get into reports. So you know im telling the truth, that the moderators arent doing shit. And I know at least few of you have had comments reported and I assure you they aren't getting deleted, nothing is being done about. This site only protects the worst of the worst.
